Bookstore tips for Rotterdam
A few things worth knowing before you work through Rotterdam's bookstores:
- Check the events board at Bruna. Book clubs, writing groups, story times — bookshops are community centres that happen to sell books.
- Don't judge by the window display at Rijnlandse Boekhandel. The front table is marketing. The back shelves are the shop's real taste. Walk the whole floor.
- Come back seasonally. Stock turns over with the publishing seasons. The shop you browsed in spring is a different shop by autumn.
- Check the cookbook section. Cookbooks are the most browsed and least bought section, which means the used shelf is full of barely-touched gems.
