A few things worth knowing before you work through Athens's tattoo shops:
- Trust the artist's placement advice at Skins. They've seen thousands of bodies. If they say the design won't age well there, listen.
- Tip your artist at Sting tattoo. Standard practice, like any skilled service. Twenty percent is the usual benchmark for good work.
- Cover-ups need a specialist. Not every artist does good cover-ups. Look for healed cover-up photos in the portfolio, not just fresh work.
- Ask about touch-ups. Most reputable shops offer free or cheap touch-ups within the first year. Ask about the policy up front.
