Thrifting tips for Chicago
A few things worth knowing before you work through Chicago's thrift stores:
- Check for completeness at Green Element Resale - Second Hand etc. Board games missing pieces, cameras missing caps, tools missing bits — open the box before it goes in your bag.
- Check the art and frames at Village Thrift Store. Original art, good frames, and the occasional genuine print turn up constantly. Frames alone are worth the habit.
- Don't skip the linens. Tablecloths, curtains and wool blankets are routinely excellent and routinely overlooked. Check for stains in good light.
- Smell the leather. Real leather smells like leather. If it smells like plastic, it is plastic — price it accordingly.
