Thrifting tips for Madrid
A few things worth knowing before you work through Madrid's thrift stores:
- Go early in the week at Intermon Oxfam. Donations land on weekends, so Monday and Tuesday shelves are the freshly stocked ones. By Saturday the good stuff is gone.
- Learn the colour-tag system at Troc. Many charity shops discount by tag colour on rotation. Ask which colour is half price this week — it changes regularly.
- Seasonal items go cheapest off-season. Winter coats in April, fans in October. Buy the season ahead and pay half.
- Don't skip the linens. Tablecloths, curtains and wool blankets are routinely excellent and routinely overlooked. Check for stains in good light.
