Art galleries in Chengdu

Galleries are best taken slowly. Chengdu, Sichuan has 12 mapped right now. That's 12 galleries mapped around Chengdu. The exhibition schedule matters more than the count: a small gallery with a great current show beats a big one between exhibitions. Opening nights are the cheat code — free entry, the artists in the room, and a crowd that actually wants to talk about the work.

This guide covers every art gallery we could verify in and around Chengdu (within about 25 km), built from OpenStreetMap's community-maintained data. Names you'll run into include 红美术馆 and 域上和美艺术馆, plus 域上和美艺术馆. If a gallery's missing from Chengdu's list, it probably just hasn't been mapped yet.

Gallery tips for Chengdu

A few things worth knowing before you work through Chengdu's art galleries:

• Ask the gallerist at 红美术馆. They know the work, the artists, and what's coming next. Most are delighted when someone asks a real question.
• Take the long way through at 域上和美艺术馆. Galleries reward slow looking. One extra lap always reveals something the first pass missed.
• Check accessibility. Older gallery buildings can be tricky. The website usually notes step-free access — check before you go.
• Go to opening nights. Free entry, the artists in the room, and a crowd that wants to talk about the work. The best gallery experience there is.

Good to know

We searched about 25 km around Chengdu — that covers the town itself plus the surrounding communities you'd reasonably drive to. Listings come from OpenStreetMap, mapped by local volunteers, so a brand-new art gallery in Chengdu can take a while to appear. Spotted a closure among the 12, or a art gallery we missed entirely? The map is the source of truth here — one OpenStreetMap edit corrects it for everyone.

We don't review exhibitions — shows change too fast. What we list is the where: real galleries, verified by real mappers.

If you run one of the 12 listed here and something's wrong — a closure, a move, new hours — the fix is the same: update the shop on OpenStreetMap and the correction flows through to this page on the next daily refresh.
