Art galleries in Filey

The map for Filey, North Yorkshire's art galleries is still blank. Our search covered roughly 12 km around Filey, looking through OpenStreetMap for art galleries, and turned up nothing mapped so far. Blank maps are usually a mapping gap rather than a real gap. This page refreshes daily from the latest map data, so a blank today can be a full guide tomorrow.

Commercial, artist-run, public: the three flavours

Commercial galleries sell the work — asking about the price list is normal. Artist-run centres show the risky, emerging stuff the market won't touch yet. Public galleries hold collections and mount the big historical shows. All three count here, and the best gallery towns have all three within walking distance.

Filey sits about 54° north of the equator, so it gets proper seasons. Winter is gallery season in the best way: the big exhibitions open when everyone's indoors and looking for things to do, and opening nights are at their liveliest.

When Filey's galleries do get mapped, you'll be able to tell the mix at a glance — and plan the walk accordingly.

Gallery smarts for Filey

No mapped galleries yet, but the gallery habits work anywhere. Four worth knowing:

• Kids are welcome (usually). Most galleries are fine with children; the contemporary ones especially. Call ahead if you're unsure.
• Note the curator's name. Good curators have taste you can follow. If you loved the show, look up what else they've put together.
• Don't rush the video work. Video installations need their full runtime. Sit down, give it the minutes it asks for.
• Check for artist talks. Talks, walkthroughs and panel discussions are often free and turn a good show into a great evening.

What earns a listing in Filey

Our bar is a space that shows art to the public on a real programme. Commercial, artist-run, or public — if exhibitions are the business, it qualifies.

When a qualifying art gallery gets mapped in Filey, this page updates on the next refresh with its name, address where available, and whatever hours, phone or website the mappers recorded. Nothing here is paid placement and nothing is sponsored — if it's on the map, it's on the page.

This page refreshes daily from the latest map data, so the moment a qualifying art gallery appears in Filey's OpenStreetMap data, it shows up here — usually within a day of being mapped.

One edit is all it takes

Dayfari's art galleries listings are read straight from OpenStreetMap, which means anyone can fix them. An art gallery in Filey needs exactly one volunteer to add it — tagged tourism=gallery — and the next refresh pulls it onto this page automatically. The most useful details are the art gallery's name, its street address, and its opening hours — even a name and a pin on the map is enough to get started.
