Gallery tips for St. Marys

How the regulars do St. Marys's galleries:

• Note the curator's name at Island Art Association Gallery. Good curators have taste you can follow. If you loved the show, look up what else they've put together.
• Check for late openings. Some galleries open late one evening a week. After-work art is an underrated pleasure.
• Take the long way through. Galleries reward slow looking. One extra lap always reveals something the first pass missed.
• Many galleries are free. Smaller and artist-run spaces often charge nothing. When in doubt, check the website rather than assuming.
