Dodger Stadium sits in the hills above downtown LA, and on a clear evening the sunset over the outfield is the most beautiful sight in baseball. The park opened in 1962 and keeps its mid-century charm while hosting one of the sport's model franchises.

Baseball in LA is a relaxed, sunny affair: day games, beach weather, and a crowd that's there for the scene as much as the score. Here's the playbook.

Tickets and the sunset

The Dodgers draw huge crowds, so weekend games sell out. Weekday games are the value play, and the outfield pavilions (all-you-can-eat seats) are the best deal in the park. The top deck behind home plate has the famous view: the field, the city, the sunset.

Game day: the logistics

The stadium's location means driving is the default, and the parking situation is legendary (in the bad way). Arrive early or take the Dodger Stadium Express bus from Union Station. The lots open early and the pre-game scene is part of the fun.

The LA weekend

Beach by day (Santa Monica, Venice), baseball by night. The Getty, Griffith Observatory, and the food scene fill the gaps. LA's sprawl means clustering by area; don't try to do the beach and downtown in one afternoon.
