Game night tips for Braunschweig

A few things worth knowing before you work through Braunschweig's board game cafés:

• Check the events calendar at Brettspiel Eck. Tournaments, learn-to-plays, designer nights — the calendar is where the community lives.
• Learn the rules from the teacher, not the book. Rulebooks are reference; humans are teachers. Let the staff run the first round.
• Learn one game well. Regulars have their game. Pick one from the library, learn it properly, and become the table's teacher.
• Go on weeknights. Quieter, more table choice, and the staff have time to teach properly. Weeknights are the insider move.

Good to know

We searched about 40 km around Braunschweig — that covers the town itself plus the surrounding communities you'd reasonably drive to. Listings come from OpenStreetMap, mapped by local volunteers, so a brand-new board game café in Braunschweig can take a while to appear. For board game cafés we also seed from Foursquare's venue directory, since cafés are poorly tagged on the map. If you spot one of the 1 that's closed, or a great board game café we missed, the fix is to update the map itself — that's where this guide reads from.

We don't list cover charges or menus — those change. What we list is the where: real venues from community mapping and Foursquare, with no favourites.

If you run one of the 1 listed here and something's wrong — a closure, a move, new hours — the fix is the same: update the shop on OpenStreetMap and the correction flows through to this page on the next daily refresh.
