Board game cafés in Dortmund

We haven't mapped any board game cafés in Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia yet. We searched about 25 km around town in OpenStreetMap's community data — board game cafés — and came up empty. That usually means the places exist but nobody's mapped them, not that there's nothing to find. This page refreshes daily from the latest map data, so a blank today can be a full guide tomorrow.

Finding game night around Dortmund anyway

No mapped spots doesn't mean no games. The usual stand-ins: the library's game collection (many lend games now), pub quiz and trivia nights, the nearest city's game cafés — worth a monthly trip — and open game nights run by local groups. Ask at the library; they know where the players are.

Dortmund sits about 52° north of the equator, so it gets proper seasons. Winter is peak game-night season: dark early evenings, the perfect excuse to gather a group around a table for three hours.

And check meetup-style groups online: the players are out there even where the venues aren't mapped yet.

Game night smarts for Dortmund

No mapped game spots yet, but the game-night skills work anywhere. Four worth knowing:

• Mind the table time. On busy nights tables turn over. Finish your game, free the table, order another round at the bar.
• Ask about the regulars' nights. Many cafés run weekly open game nights. Show up solo and you'll leave with a gaming group.
• Ask about the shop section. Many cafés sell the games too, often with a try-first discount. Ask what's in stock.
• Go on weeknights. Quieter, more table choice, and the staff have time to teach properly. Weeknights are the insider move.

The kind of venue that belongs here

Somewhere the games library is the point: a board game café, a game bar, a shop with play space. Not a pub with a chess set — the real thing.

When a qualifying board game café gets mapped in Dortmund, this page updates on the next refresh with its name, address where available, and whatever hours, phone or website the mappers recorded. Nothing here is paid placement and nothing is sponsored — if it's on the map, it's on the page.

This page refreshes daily from the latest map data, so the moment a qualifying board game café appears in Dortmund's OpenStreetMap data, it shows up here — usually within a day of being mapped.

Put Dortmund on the map

Know a board game café here that isn't listed? The fastest route onto this page runs through OpenStreetMap: add it as shop=games (name-matched) with its name and address, and it'll appear here after our next daily refresh. Local knowledge beats every dataset. The most useful details are the board game café's name, its street address, and its opening hours — even a name and a pin on the map is enough to get started.
