What counts as a board game café in Katoomba

A place built around playing: cafés with games libraries, board game bars, and dedicated game shops with play space. We map community data plus Foursquare's venue directory, since cafés are thinly tagged on the map. What doesn't count: a pub with one chess set, and online-only sellers.

Katoomba sits about 34° south of the equator, so the seasons run flipped. Winter here runs June to August, and it's peak game-night season — long evenings made for settling in with a big box.

When spots in Katoomba get mapped, they appear here with addresses and hours where recorded. Mapped means listed — no paid placement, no favourites.

Game night smarts for Katoomba

No mapped game spots yet, but the game-night skills work anywhere. Four worth knowing:

• Ask about the shop section. Many cafés sell the games too, often with a try-first discount. Ask what's in stock.
• Thank the teacher. A good games teacher makes the night. Tell them, tip them, come back.
• Bring cash for the cover. Some smaller venues are cash-only at the door. A few bills avoid awkwardness.
• Ask about memberships. Regulars should ask. Monthly memberships often beat per-visit cover charges fast.

The kind of venue that belongs here

Somewhere the games library is the point: a board game café, a game bar, a shop with play space. Not a pub with a chess set — the real thing.

When a qualifying board game café gets mapped in Katoomba, this page updates on the next refresh with its name, address where available, and whatever hours, phone or website the mappers recorded. Nothing here is paid placement and nothing is sponsored — if it's on the map, it's on the page.

This page refreshes daily from the latest map data, so the moment a qualifying board game café appears in Katoomba's OpenStreetMap data, it shows up here — usually within a day of being mapped.

How Katoomba gets on the board game cafés map

Every listing on Dayfari starts as an OpenStreetMap edit by a local volunteer. If you know a board game café in Katoomba, adding it to the map (tagged shop=games (name-matched)) is the fastest way to get it listed here — our next refresh picks it up automatically. The most useful details are the board game café's name, its street address, and its opening hours — even a name and a pin on the map is enough to get started.
