What counts as a board game café in Okotoks

A place built around playing: cafés with games libraries, board game bars, and dedicated game shops with play space. We map community data plus Foursquare's venue directory, since cafés are thinly tagged on the map. What doesn't count: a pub with one chess set, and online-only sellers.

Okotoks sits about 51° north of the equator, so it gets proper seasons. Winter is peak game-night season: dark early evenings, the perfect excuse to gather a group around a table for three hours.

When spots in Okotoks get mapped, they appear here with addresses and hours where recorded. Mapped means listed — no paid placement, no favourites.

Game night smarts for Okotoks

No mapped game spots yet, but the game-night skills work anywhere. Four worth knowing:

• Go on weeknights. Quieter, more table choice, and the staff have time to teach properly. Weeknights are the insider move.
• Keep the noise reasonable. Excitement is fine; shouting across the room isn't. Other tables are concentrating.
• Keep phones away. Nothing kills game night like half the table scrolling. The game deserves your attention.
• Ask about the cover charge. Many cafés charge per person for table time, often waived with food and drink. Ask before you sit, not after.
