What counts as a comic shop in Basel

A shop built around comics: new issues, back issues, trades, usually with the games and collectibles alongside. What doesn't count: the graphic-novel shelf at the bookstore, and online-only sellers. The bar is a real shop where Wednesday means new comics.

Basel sits about 48° north of the equator, so it gets proper seasons. Winter is peak comics season: dark evenings, the big event storylines running, and the Wednesday ritual at its cosiest.

When comic shops in Basel get mapped, they appear here with addresses and hours where recorded. Mapped means listed — no paid placement, no favourites.

Comic smarts for Basel

No mapped comic shops yet, but the comics habits work anywhere. Four worth knowing:

• Check the kids' section. All-ages comics are genuinely great now, not watered down. The kids' shelf is a joy even for adults.
• Dig the back issues. The long boxes are the shop's memory. Full runs of older series hide here at a fraction of collected-edition prices.
• Ask about grading services. For valuable books, professional grading exists. The staff can tell you whether a book is worth the cost.
• Don't be embarrassed to start. Everyone starts somewhere. 'I've never read comics, where do I begin?' is a question staff hear happily every week.

When a qualifying comic shop gets mapped in Basel, this page updates on the next refresh with its name, address where available, and whatever hours, phone or website the mappers recorded. Nothing here is paid placement and nothing is sponsored — if it's on the map, it's on the page.

This page refreshes daily from the latest map data, so the moment a qualifying comic shop appears in Basel's OpenStreetMap data, it shows up here — usually within a day of being mapped.
