Day trips from Barnala
Barnala sits on NH 7 with buses fanning out in every direction: Sangrur in 40 minutes, Patiala in under two hours, Ludhiana and Bathinda for the full day. The day-trip menu.
Under an hour
Sangrur (~32 km, 35-40 min)
The easy half-day: Banasar Bagh gardens, the old royal quarter, and a bigger-town bazaar. 4+ AC buses daily; you can be there for a 10am start and back by evening without trying.
Dhanaula (adjoining town)
Technically the next town over, practically a neighbourhood - green fields, the Rajwara and Deepak dhabas, and the village-Punjab feel within 15 minutes.
Handiaya (~10-15 min)
Pyramid Barnala's home turf - combine the microbrewery evening with the HG Eaton Plaza stop. Also the Star Diamond Dhaba belt.
The full day
Patiala (~80 km, 1h20-1h40)
Qila Mubarak, Sheesh Mahal, and Patiala's richer food scene - the peg, the paranda, the Phulkari. The classic Barnala day trip; confirm your return bus at the stand before leaving.
Ludhiana (~65-70 km, ~1h15)
Punjab's biggest city - malls, the actual nightlife scene, and shopping several tiers above Barnala. Doable as a long day; better as an overnight.
Bathinda (~75-80 km)
Qila Mubarak Bathinda (one of India's oldest forts), the Rose Garden, and the thermal-plant-town oddness. A full day, best with an early start.
