Abbotsford is one of those towns that's genuinely easy to explore with a dog — if you know where the off-leash areas are, which patios welcome four-legged regulars, and which vet to call when something goes sideways at 9 p.m. This guide covers all of it: five places to let them run, three walks to leash them up for, three brewery patios where dogs belong, the vets and groomers locals rely on, and three hotels that take dogs without any drama. Every address is verified. No invented policies, no guessed prices — and where a policy can change, we tell you to call ahead.
Four official City off-leash areas, plus a regional park that's worth the short drive.
The City of Abbotsford designates four off-leash areas across the city — and the rules are the same everywhere: your dog must be licensed, you must carry a leash with you at all times, and dogs are leashed in every park except the designated off-leash zones. Those zones only stay open because people pick up after their dogs, so bring bags and use them.
One more thing before you head out: these listings describe the off-leash areas themselves. Trails around them — including the dike at McKay Creek — are generally leashed, so don't let your dog tear off onto the dyke path and assume the off-leash rules follow.

34638 Bateman Rd, Abbotsford, BC V2S 7Y8
One of the City's four official off-leash areas, at Bateman Park near Stoney Creek. It's a big open space — easy fetch territory — and it sits right beside Willband Creek Park if you want a leashed wetland stroll before or after the run. Mornings and late afternoons are when the regulars are here.
Best for: Fetch and full-speed running in open space.

3680 Clearbrook Rd, Abbotsford, BC
The off-leash area at Clearbrook Park serves the west side of the city. Like the other City zones, it's covered by the same rules: licensed dog, leash in hand, scoop everything. It's a convenient pick if you're staying or shopping in the Clearbrook corridor.
Best for: West-side locals and anyone already out along Clearbrook Road.

3555 Gladwin Rd, Abbotsford, BC V2T 4Z5
Gladwin Park's off-leash area is the central-city option, handy from anywhere along the Gladwin–Clearbrook corridor. Same City rules apply: licensed dog, leash on your person, clean up. It gets busy on weekends — if your dog prefers a quieter run, weekday mornings are calmer.
Best for: A central, easy-to-reach off-leash run.

3435 Eldridge Rd, Abbotsford, BC V3G 2H4
The east-side off-leash area at McKay Creek Park, right by the Sumas Dyke. The off-leash zone is the place to let them run; the dike trail beside it is a lovely walk but it's leashed territory, so clip the leash on when you head for the dike.
Best for: Combining an off-leash run with a scenic dyke walk.

27240 8 Ave, Township of Langley, BC
Technically just outside Abbotsford in the Township of Langley, but it's the biggest dog outing in the area. Metro Vancouver keeps an off-leash area in the park's north-east section; everywhere else in the park dogs must be leashed, and pets aren't allowed at all on the Nature Discovery Loop. Meadows, forest trails and wetlands — this one is worth the drive.
Best for: A proper half-day outing — meadows, forest and a real off-leash zone.
Check Metro Vancouver's official park page for dog rules and the off-leash area map.

For everything outside the off-leash zones, these are the walks locals actually do with their dogs.
Outside the designated off-leash areas, Abbotsford's parks and trails are leash-on. That's not a hardship — the city has genuinely nice walking, from a lakeside loop you can do before work to wetland boardwalks that feel further from the suburbs than they are.
The same etiquette applies everywhere: short leash on shared paths, yield to bikes and horses where trails are shared, and stay on the trail in wetland areas.

2310 Emerson St, Abbotsford, BC
The classic Abbotsford dog walk: a shaded loop around Mill Lake, right in the middle of town. It's the before-work or after-dinner standard — flat, easy, and busy enough that your dog will make friends. Dogs stay leashed here.
Best for: The daily loop — flat, central, shaded.
Bateman Rd, Abbotsford, BC V2S 7Y8
Wetland boardwalks and viewing platforms along Willband Creek — the prettiest leashed walk in the city, and a birdwatcher's spot. Dogs must stay leashed and on the trails; the wetlands are sensitive habitat. It pairs perfectly with the Bateman Park off-leash area next door.
Best for: A scenic boardwalk walk after an off-leash run next door.
8535 Discovery Trail, Abbotsford, BC
Abbotsford's multi-use Discovery Trail threads through city parks and neighbourhoods — good for a longer leashed walk or run without repeating the same loop. Pick it up at any access point and go as far as you like; it's shared with cyclists, so keep to the right.
Best for: Longer leashed walks and runs.

Abbotsford's brewery scene is where dogs are most welcome — these patios all invite four-legged regulars.
BC's liquor rules keep dogs off indoor food-service floors, but patios are fair game — and Abbotsford's breweries have embraced it. These three spots all welcome dogs on their patios. The usual deal applies: dog under the table, out of the servers' way, and a water bowl appears if you ask.
Patios are seasonal and weather-dependent. If you're coming in spring or fall, a quick call before you bring the dog saves a wasted trip.

The numbers to save in your phone — before you need them.

Three hotels that take dogs without drama — but confirm the pet policy when you book, not at check-in.
All three of these hotels accept dogs, and all three charge for the privilege — the fees, weight limits and deposits differ, so get the pet terms in writing on your confirmation. Pet policies change more often than room rates; a two-minute call before booking beats a surprise at the front desk.
One universal rule across all of them: dogs can't be left unattended in the room, and they're expected to be leashed or crated in public areas. Plan your outings accordingly.
