This Film Club is for ages 18 and up About the Film: Steven Spielberg and Tobe Hooper's classic supernatural horror film Poltergeist follows the Freeling family as their idyllic suburban home is invaded by increasingly aggressive and malevolent spirits. The plot centers on young Carol Anne Freeling, who makes eerie contact with otherworldly entities through the static of the television set before being pulled directly into a netherworld dimension. As the haunting escalates—featuring furniture sliding on its own, twisted tree attacks, and terrifying apparitions—the family brings in parapsychologists and a spiritual medium to help rescue her. Ultimately, the film stands as a benchmark of 1980s horror, blending grounded suburban family dynamics with spectacular, high-stakes supernatural terror.
