How to choose in Kitchener

• Mat vs reformer. Mat pilates needs nothing but floor space; reformer classes use the sliding-carriage machine and cost more. Both build core strength, but they feel completely different. Try both.
• Small classes, big corrections. Good pilates is all about form. Studios with under a dozen reformers give you the hands-on adjustments that make it work.
• Start with fundamentals. Even if you're fit, one or two foundations classes will save you weeks of bad habits. Your lower back will thank you.

Common questions

What's the difference between mat and reformer pilates?

Mat pilates uses your body weight on a mat. Reformer pilates uses a machine with springs and a sliding carriage for resistance. Reformer classes cost more and usually need booking ahead.

Is pilates good for back pain?

Many people find it helps, but talk to your doctor or physiotherapist first, and tell the instructor about any issues before class.
