Record stores in Castlemaine

The map for Castlemaine, Victoria's record stores is still blank. Our search covered roughly 15 km around Castlemaine, looking through OpenStreetMap for record stores, and turned up nothing mapped so far. Blank maps are usually a mapping gap rather than a real gap. This page refreshes daily from the latest map data, so a blank today can be a full guide tomorrow.

Why record shops matter

A record shop is a town's music memory: the staff who know, the regulars who dig, the new-arrivals bin that's different every week. Algorithms don't do any of that. That's why this page exists even with nothing to list — we'd rather show an honest blank than invent shops in Castlemaine.

Castlemaine sits about 37° south of the equator, so the seasons run flipped. Winter here runs June to August, and it's peak digging season — long evenings made for flipping through bins.

Every shop that gets mapped here appears in alphabetical order with what the community map knows: address, hours, website. No sponsored slots, ever.

Digging smarts for Castlemaine

No mapped record shops yet, but the digging skills work anywhere. Four worth knowing:

• Don't skip the 45s. The singles boxes get less traffic and hide great finds. B-sides are the deep cuts of record shopping.
• Ask the staff what's new. Shop staff know what's just come in and what's about to. One question can save an hour of digging.
• Ask about want-list services. Good shops will keep an eye out for your grails. It takes patience, but the call when it lands is worth it.
• Don't clean records with your shirt. A proper brush costs little and saves grooves. Shirt fibres and spit are how records get ruined.

What we're watching for in Castlemaine

A real record shop: new vinyl, used vinyl, or both, with bins to dig. Independents and specialists all count. The vinyl wall at the lifestyle chain doesn't.

When a qualifying record store gets mapped in Castlemaine, this page updates on the next refresh with its name, address where available, and whatever hours, phone or website the mappers recorded. Nothing here is paid placement and nothing is sponsored — if it's on the map, it's on the page.

This page refreshes daily from the latest map data, so the moment a qualifying record store appears in Castlemaine's OpenStreetMap data, it shows up here — usually within a day of being mapped.
