Record digging tips for St. Augustine

How the regulars work St. Augustine's bins:

• The listening station is the test at Tonevendor. If a record looks questionable, play the loud passages. That's where surface noise shows up.
• Check the dead wax. The runout groove holds matrix numbers that identify pressings. Collectors live by these; a quick phone search settles it.
• Buy the weird stuff. Private pressings, local bands, oddball compilations — the strange records are the ones that appreciate.
• Learn to spot reissues. Reissues are cheaper and often sound great. Originals cost more for the history. Know which you're paying for.
