Digging around St. Francisville anyway

No mapped record shops doesn't mean no vinyl. The usual stand-ins: charity-shop record sections (priced to move, restocked by donations), estate sales, flea markets, and the nearest city's record shops — worth a day trip with a want-list and a full tank.

St. Francisville sits about 31° north of the equator, so it gets proper seasons. Winter is peak digging season: dark evenings, the new-arrivals bin fresh from the autumn collection sell-offs, and nowhere better to spend a Saturday.

And ask at the library: some lend vinyl now, and librarians always know where the local collectors trade.

Digging smarts for St. Francisville

No mapped record shops yet, but the digging skills work anywhere. Four worth knowing:

• Check the vinyl, not just the sleeve. Slide it out (carefully, by the edges) and look at it in good light. Sleeves lie; vinyl doesn't.
• Don't skip the 45s. The singles boxes get less traffic and hide great finds. B-sides are the deep cuts of record shopping.
• The dollar bin is honest work. Nobody's getting rich off the dollar bin, but the joy-per-dollar ratio is unbeatable. Flip through all of it.
• Genre-hop. The best finds are in the sections you don't know. Jazz collectors find gold in the classical bins and vice versa.

What earns a listing in St. Francisville

Our bar is a walk-in shop selling recorded music on physical formats. New, used, or both — if the bins are the business, it qualifies.
