Tattoo shops in Asmara

The map for Asmara, Maekel's tattoo shops is still blank. Our search covered roughly 40 km around Asmara, looking through OpenStreetMap for tattoo shops, and turned up nothing mapped so far. Blank maps are usually a mapping gap rather than a real gap. This page refreshes daily from the latest map data, so a blank today can be a full guide tomorrow.

What counts as a tattoo shop in Asmara

A proper studio: a fixed address, licensed artists working legally, portfolios you can browse before you commit, and sterilisation you can see. Some also do piercings. What doesn't count: home scratchers, kitchen-table setups, and anyone offering to tattoo you somewhere improvised. The bar is deliberately high — this is your skin.

Asmara sits near the equator. Sun is a year-round factor here, so fresh tattoos need serious sun protection while they heal — and sunscreen becomes a lifelong habit after.

When studios in Asmara get mapped, you'll see them here with addresses, hours and contact details where the mappers recorded them. No paid placement, no sponsored slots — mapped means listed.

Tattoo smarts for Asmara

No mapped studios yet, but the vetting skills work anywhere. Four worth knowing:

• Tip your artist. Standard practice, like any skilled service. Twenty percent is the usual benchmark for good work.
• Ask about touch-ups. Most reputable shops offer free or cheap touch-ups within the first year. Ask about the policy up front.
• Check healed photos. Fresh tattoos always look good. Ask to see healed work — that's the real quality test.
• Bring reference images. Artists work better from references than from descriptions. Collect images of the style, not just the subject.

What we're watching for in Asmara

A real shop: a fixed address, licensed artists working on the books, portfolios you can browse before you commit, and proper sterilisation you can see. Walk-in flash days are a bonus, not a requirement.

When a qualifying tattoo shop gets mapped in Asmara, this page updates on the next refresh with its name, address where available, and whatever hours, phone or website the mappers recorded. Nothing here is paid placement and nothing is sponsored — if it's on the map, it's on the page.

This page refreshes daily from the latest map data, so the moment a qualifying tattoo shop appears in Asmara's OpenStreetMap data, it shows up here — usually within a day of being mapped.

How Asmara gets on the tattoo shops map

Every listing on Dayfari starts as an OpenStreetMap edit by a local volunteer. If you know a tattoo shop in Asmara, adding it to the map (tagged shop=tattoo) is the fastest way to get it listed here — our next refresh picks it up automatically.
