Things to do

Things to do in Raikot

Raikot is a tahsil town of about 29,000 people in Ludhiana district - a working Punjabi town, not a tourist trap, which is exactly why the short list below is short: everything on it is real and verified from public listings in October 2026. The anchor is Sikh history - Guru Gobind Singh passed through here - plus the oddest royal mansion in Punjab and the everyday rhythm of mandis, dhabas and evening parks. Nothing here is a paid placement.

The short version

Give Raikot half a day: the Tahliana Sahib gurdwara in the morning, the Bassian Kothi after lunch, Kutba Gate and the bazaar on the way back, and a film at KVA Cineplex in the evening. That's the whole town, and it's a good day.

The verified list

Gurdwara Sri Tahliana Sahib

1.5 km west of town, SGPC-managed

The anchor sight. This is where Guru Gobind Singh received the news of his younger sons' martyrdom at Sirhind, and the gurdwara's three-day annual fair (19-21 Poh, i.e. 1-3 January) is Raikot's biggest religious gathering - kirtan, religious congregations and langar. The complex has a 1920s domed prakash asthan, divan hall and sarovar. Free entry; langar is served to all.

Kutba Gate & Kutba Gurudwara

Kutba Bazaar, old town

Kutba Gate is Raikot's historic town gate and the neighbourhood's namesake landmark; the Kutba Gurudwara sits in the same bazaar. Walk the old bazaar lanes around it in the morning for the town's oldest streetscape. Free to view.

Maharaja Duleep Singh Memorial Kothi

Bassian village, ~8 km (Raikot tahsil)

The 200-year-old mansion where the British held the last Sikh ruler captive in 1849 before exiling him - he spent his last night in Punjab here on 31 December. Set in 8 acres, with his dresses, jewellery, furniture and portraits on display plus guides who tell the whole story. Open Tue-Sun 09:00-13:00 and 14:00-17:00 (closed Monday); +91 98154 81679. Rated 4.5/5 (277 reviews on JustDial), 4.7/5 on Tripadvisor. Entry fee unverified - confirm before going.

KVA Cineplex

Jagraon Road, Raikot

Raikot's only cinema, screening mainstream Punjabi and Hindi releases - and it is genuinely bookable online: BookMyShow lists KVA Cineplex Raikot with dated showtimes (slots observed around 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM in October 2026; MTicket, parking and a food court on site). Schedules change weekly, so check the live page for this week's films.

Raikot Sabzi Mandi

Dana Mandi Road, daily 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM

The town's daily wholesale-and-retail produce market. Go in the morning when it's loudest - auctioneers, heaped greens, the whole mandi economy in one stretch. Free to browse; the best free window into how the town actually earns its living.

Ramgarhia Park & Professor Colony Park

Raikot town

The two public parks the Municipal Council town actually uses - morning walkers, evening family crowds. Free entry, no programming, just green space.

Sports Ground, Dadhahur

Near Dadhahur village (~5 km)

Raikot's stadium (OSM-verified) - the ground that hosted block-level Kheda Watan Punjab Diyan trials. Cricket is the town's sport; academies like AS Cricket Academy and Satluj Cricket Academy list Raikot. Drop by in the evening for practice matches.

Sri Bhaini Sahib

Bhaini Baringan, Raikot tahsil

Headquarters of the Namdhari sect - a working religious centre, not a tourist attraction. The annual Namdhari Shaheedi Mela is held here (August; announced on YouTube/Facebook only). Visit respectfully and dress modestly.

Sights verified from public listings (JustDial, Tripadvisor, SGPC and panchang sources), checked October 2026.

Free things to do in Raikot

The gurdwaras (Tahliana Sahib and Kutba), Kutba Gate, both public parks, the Namdhari Shahidi Samarak memorial and a morning browse of the Sabzi Mandi are all free - no admission fee found anywhere. Bassian Kothi's entry fee is unverified, so call +91 98154 81679 before going.
