Thrifting tips for Newport

A few things worth knowing before you work through Newport's thrift stores:

• Seasonal items go cheapest off-season at Closet Revival. Winter coats in April, fans in October. Buy the season ahead and pay half.
• Check the furniture first, clothes second. Good furniture sells within hours; good clothes within days. Walk the furniture floor before the racks.
• Donate while you're there. Bring a bag of your own cast-offs. It keeps the cycle going and the volunteers remember friendly faces.
• Look behind the front row. Shoppers pull things out and shove them back carelessly. The best find is often one rack deep, half-hidden.
