Thrifting tips for Yellow Springs

A few things worth knowing before you work through Yellow Springs's thrift stores:

• Try everything on at Goodwill. Sizing across decades is chaos. The fitting room — or a brave moment by the mirror — saves you from the almost-right jacket.
• Donate while you're there at Second Act of Cedarville. Bring a bag of your own cast-offs. It keeps the cycle going and the volunteers remember friendly faces.
• Don't ignore the kids' section. Kids outgrow everything in months, so the children's racks are full of barely-worn quality. Even without kids, the small furniture is great for small spaces.
• Check the furniture first, clothes second. Good furniture sells within hours; good clothes within days. Walk the furniture floor before the racks.
