The New York Rangers share Madison Square Garden with the Knicks, and the hockey crowds are arguably louder. The Rangers are an Original Six franchise with a passionate, knowledgeable fanbase, and the Garden during the playoffs is one of sports' great atmospheres.

Hockey season runs fall through spring, and the Garden's midtown location makes this the easiest hockey trip in America. Here's the playbook.

Tickets and timing

Rangers tickets are pricey but more accessible than Knicks tickets in the same building. Weeknight games against non-rivals are the value play; the 200-level has good sightlines.

Game night at the Garden

Penn Station, every subway line, midtown Manhattan: the logistics are unbeatable. The Garden's hockey configuration feels intimate; the steep seating puts you on top of the ice.

The crowd is the thing: Rangers fans are intense, funny, and loud. The 'Potvin sucks' chant (a decades-old tradition) still echoes. After: the midtown bars, or Koreatown (one block away) for the late dinner.
