Brunch
Brunch in Phillaur
Phillaur doesn't do brunch - it does something better: parathas at 24-hour dhabas, kulcha-chole at the corner shop, and kulhad chai at every chowk. The late-morning guide.
Brunch, Phillaur-style (an honest note)
There is no brunch culture in Phillaur in the eggs-benedict sense - nobody here does a Sunday brunch menu, and pretending otherwise would be fiction. What Phillaur does have is a superb late-morning food culture, and that's what this page covers.
The late-morning circuit
Dhaba breakfasts
The 24-hour dhabas serve breakfast all morning - aloo parathas with white butter, puri-chana, bread omelettes at the egg counters. Punjabi Virasat and Nar Dhaba both do the full morning spread.
Amritsari Kulcha Corner
4.5 stars, pure veg, ~Rs 150 for two - stuffed kulchas with chole and imli chutney. Opens 9am. The closest thing to a brunch dish, and the town's favourite.
Surjit Dhaba
Opens 8am - the early-open dhaba breakfast before the lunch crowd arrives.
Hotel breakfasts
The hotel restaurants do the standard Indian breakfast spread - puri-sabzi, parathas, chai - no reservation needed, just walk in.
Sweet-shop mornings
Saini Sweets opens early - jalebi with rabri, samosas, and fresh mithai are the actual Phillaur brunch.
Chai stalls
Kulhad chai at the tea stalls around the railway station and Naya Bazar - Rs 10-20, and the morning adda comes free.
If you want the cafe version
Reno Cafe (4.8 stars) opens for the American-style breakfast end - pancakes, eggs, coffee. Infields Food House on the Nakodar Road opens 9:30am for the sit-down late breakfast. That's as close to brunch as Phillaur gets, and it's perfectly good.
Common questions
Are there brunch restaurants in Phillaur?
Not in the Western-brunch sense. The late-morning scene is dhaba breakfasts, kulcha-chole plates, and sweet-shop jalebi-rabri mornings - arguably better.
What's a typical Phillaur breakfast?
Aloo paratha with white butter and lassi at a dhaba, or Amritsari kulcha with chole. Chai-stall kulhads on the side.
