Date Ideas in Fez
Fez is quietly one of the most romantic cities in Morocco — not in a grand-gesture way, but in a rooftop-at-sunset, dinner-in-a-courtyard way. The medina does half the work for you.
Date ideas for the old city, from classic to low-key.

The classic Fez date is dinner in a riad courtyard or on a rooftop. The Ruined Garden (15 Derb Idrissy) does lunch and dinner among orange trees — romantic without trying too hard. Palais Amani's Eden restaurant is the special-occasion choice: gastronomic Moroccan cooking under the stars, with the rooftop bar for drinks first.
Dar Roumana (30 Derb El Amer) is the connoisseur's pick — refined Moroccan-Mediterranean food in a beautifully restored house. Book all three ahead; Fez's good rooms are small.

Dinner in a walled garden in the medina — orange trees, candlelight, and excellent Moroccan cooking. The most romantic room in Fez that isn't trying to be.

Sunsets and evening walks
Sunset is the romantic hour in Fez. The Merenid Tombs viewpoint — the whole medina spread below, the light going gold — is the move; take a taxi up and walk down. Café Clock's rooftop at sunset is the livelier alternative, with mint tea and the medina glowing.
After dark, the medina's main streets are atmospheric and safe enough in the early evening — a slow walk from Bab Boujloud through the lit lanes, ending at a rooftop for tea, is a perfect low-key date.

A couple's hammam at a riad spa (Les Bains Amani takes bookings; many riads arrange private sessions) is the most Fez date activity there is — steam, scrub, and an hour of calm together.
A morning cooking class for two — the Café Clock school's souk run and shared lunch — is a date that doubles as a memory. And the Dar Batha Museum's garden courtyard is the quietest romantic walk in the city.
Practical tips
- Book rooftop dinners ahead — the good terraces fill up at sunset.
- Public displays of affection are frowned upon; keep it discreet in the medina.
- The Merenid Tombs at sunset is the classic romantic viewpoint.
- Dress up a little for the riad restaurants — the setting deserves it.
Fez is a romantic city that doesn't try to be. Let the medina do the work.
