Teen Activities in Fez
Fez with teenagers is a specific challenge: no malls worth mentioning, no theme parks, and a medina that can bore a teen in an hour or fascinate them for a day. The trick is giving them things to do, not things to look at.
What actually works with teens, from someone who's thought about it.
Hands-on: cooking, pottery, food missions
Teens don't want to look. They want to do.

The single best teen activity in Fez is a cooking class. The Café Clock school's morning session — souk shopping, hands-on cooking, eating the results — holds attention for four hours and ends with lunch. Teens who'd die of boredom in a museum will happily pound spices.
Pottery workshops work the same way: sitting at a wheel, making something lumpy, painting it badly. Art D'argile near the medina is set up for visitors. And a private food tour — a guided graze through the souks with a mission to try everything — beats any sightseeing walk.

The tanneries are the most Instagrammable thing in Fez and teens know it — the dye pits from above are genuinely spectacular. The Merenid Tombs at sunset is the other photo mission. Give them the camera and an hour.
The souks work as a supervised treasure hunt: give each teen a small budget and a list (leather bracelet, brass trinket, weird spice), and turn them loose in a defined area. Seffarine's metalworkers and the dyers' souk are the most photogenic quarters.

When the medina wins, retreat: hotel pools (the Barceló and the big new-town hotels sell day access), the Borj Fès mall on Boulevard Allal El Fassi (Morocco's mall experience, such as it is — Carrefour, food court, cinema at Mégarama), and the cafés.
Football is the universal teen language — a MAS Fès home game at the Complexe Sportif de Fès (check the Botola schedule; the CAF Champions League tie vs ASEC Mimosas is mid-October 2026) is a proper local experience if the dates align. Evening rooftop time at Café Clock — mint tea, music some nights — is the approved hangout.
Practical tips
- Give teens a mission, not a tour — a shopping list, a photo challenge, a food quest.
- The medina is tiring; plan a pool or café break every couple of hours.
- Let them haggle — supervised bargaining is the best teen activity in the souks.
- Wi-Fi is the peace treaty; confirm your riad's is good.
Fez won't entertain teenagers on its own — but give them a mission (souk treasure hunt, cooking class, viewpoint at sunset) and it delivers.
