Classes in Wasaga Beach: the library is the schoolhouse

Wasaga's class calendar runs on one engine -- a new public library with a program staff -- supported by the Town's recreation guide. Here is the verified curriculum.

The library's program school

the Wasaga Beach Public Library, 544 River Road West, phone 705-429-5481 -- the town's new central library, opened January 27, 2024 as one half of the combined Wasaga Stars Arena and library complex, built on the site of the former Wasaga Waterworld waterpark. The library's own surfaces list its hours as Monday to Friday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday to Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is a working community hub rather than a reading room: free adult programs running through the year have included one-on-one tech help, Stitch and Talk, the Rhythm of the Beach drum circle, a bring-your-own book club, the Wasaga Writers Club, a genealogy interest group and sewing-machine basics, plus a makerspace program and art exhibitions in the building. For children there is free homework help, the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten early-literacy program, and a bookmobile that carries more than 1,000 items out into the town. Program dates live on the library's calendar; this guide names the programs, not a schedule.

The standing classes

Make something

Makerspace and Sew Savvy

The library's makerspace program stream and its Sew Savvy machine-basics sessions are the hands-on core: learn the machine, then use the space. Sessions are free and listed through the library's event channels.

Write and research

Wasaga Writers Club and Genealogy Interest Group

A standing writers club and a genealogy group anchor the word side of the calendar, with one-on-one tech help as the digital-literacy class that runs all year.

Move together

Rhythm of the Beach Drum Circle and Stitch and Talk

The drum circle is the town's most Wasaga class -- rhythm, in a beach town, at the library -- and Stitch and Talk carries the fibre crafts. Both are recurring, free and social by design.

The Town's recreation classes

The Town publishes a recreation guide for its seasons -- the fall-winter guide is the October document -- covering the registered side of the town's learning: fitness and line dancing, pickleball, children's and youth sport, and paddling and trail programming in the warm months. the Wasaga Stars Arena, sharing the 544 River Road West complex with the library: a twin-pad arena opened with the library on January 27, 2024, with a roughly 1,000-seat multipurpose pad suited to hockey, figure skating, concerts and trade shows, a 200-seat community pad, an elevated indoor fitness track above it, and a community hall with a full-service kitchen. Public skating and town recreation programming run out of this building through the ice season; schedules live on the Town's recreation surfaces. Across town, the RecPlex at 1724 Mosley Street is the older community recreation centre and the ground the Tuesday farmers market uses in season, and the Wasaga Beach Sports Park carries the ball diamonds and soccer fields, five diamonds and about eight soccer fields by the town's listings. Between them, these three sites hold most of the town's organized indoor and field sport.

Registration, fees and the current season's list are the Town's to publish and this guide's discipline is to name the system, not to freeze a session grid that expires.

Outdoor instruction

The Nordic centre is the town's outdoor classroom in winter: rentals lower the barrier and the graded trail system -- Blueberry for first days, High Dunes for ambitions -- is itself a curriculum, though formal lesson offerings are the operator's to advertise each season and are not asserted here. In summer, the BeachLife festival's paddleboard lessons and beach yoga showed the town programming instruction into its festival days; whether they recur is next season's program. Georgian College's Academic and Career Preparation program also holds scheduled sessions at the library, by the library's calendar -- a neighbour institution's program, hosted here, credited as such.

For children, teens and older adults

The library's curriculum is age-graded in a way most small-town class lists are not. For children: the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten early-literacy program, storytimes, and free homework help with online K-12 tutoring through the library's Homework Hub. For teens: maker and gaming programming in the library's event listings, in the same building as the arena. For older adults, the library's own news in the fall of 2026 carried registration for Our Town, a podcasting workshop series for adults 55-plus, teaching storytelling and recording skills to capture the stories of Wasaga Beach itself -- a class whose subject is the town, taught in the town's living room. Add the bookmobile, carrying more than 1,000 items into the neighbourhoods, and the library functions as a distributed schoolhouse: one campus on River Road West and a route that brings the classes to the students.

The honest scope

No private studio, music school or tutoring business is listed on this page, because none was verified on a citable surface this pass, and a classes page built on invented studios would be worse than a shorter true one. What is verified -- a deep, free library curriculum and a town recreation system -- is more than most towns this size can honestly print.
