Things to do in Innisfil

Things to do in Innisfil

Things to do in Innisfil, built from what the town's own venues publish: a resort village on the town's own shore at Big Bay Point, a Saturday night at a NASCAR oval that has run since 1968, steam engines and indie music on the same Cookstown grounds, a live stage in an old town hall — with the plain statement that there is no cinema here to pair it with — three library branches with a real maker culture, a curling club taking registrations for a new season, and a festival year anchored by the Wing Ding, Ribfest and InnisFALL. Everything below is seated in Innisfil and names its community. The things that are absent — a fair, a shelter tour, a Barrie hockey night — are absent for stated reasons, at the end.

Photos for Innisfil are still on their way. Every listing below is real.

Friday Harbour: the resort on Innisfil's own shore

Start at Big Bay Point, because visitors do. Friday Harbour Resort, 3999 Friday Drive, is seated inside Innisfil — not near it, not a radius import — and its Promenade village, CIBC Pier, marina and restaurants run a public programme across the year: the Annual Easter Egg Hunt (Sunday, April 5, 2026), a Summer Concert Series at the pier whose 2026 editions ran June through August, Cars & Jazz on the Promenade, and a Canada Day celebration that closed with the resort's own fireworks at 10 p.m. on July 1. Two disciplines hold on every mention here. The resort's productions are the resort's — its Canada Day fireworks are never printed as the Town of Innisfil's — and its fall fixtures are labelled at the strength their sources carry: Trick-or-Treat the Promenade, its annual family Halloween fixture, is carried as an unconfirmed template with its 2026 date still to be confirmed on the resort's own surface, and its Holiday Market's 2026 dates were unpublished on every surface checked, so none are derived from the 2025 window.

A night out, Innisfil-style: oval or stage

There is no cinema in Innisfil — so a night out here means live noise of one kind or another, and both kinds are real.

Sunset Speedway — the oval

6918 Yonge St, south of Stroud · Since 1968 · Saturday nights in season · track schedule governs

A NASCAR-sanctioned third-mile asphalt oval operating since 1968, 9,000 seats, with a weekly Saturday-night programme in season — Late Models, Super Stocks, Mini Stocks and Bone Stocks — and touring shows through the summer. In August 2026 it also hosted RockStock Canada (Aug 14–16). Race dates live on the track's own schedule; none are derived from the pattern here.

South Simcoe Theatre — the stage

1 Hamilton St, Cookstown · Live community theatre · no films · Cookstown

A volunteer-run community theatre in Cookstown's former Town Hall, around 200 seats, staging plays and musicals on its own published seasons. It is the town's stage — and the standing correction belongs with it: it runs no film programme, and Innisfil has no cinema. The screens serving Innisfil postal codes are in Barrie, and they are listed as Barrie's.

Cookstown's grounds: steam, music and the Wing Ding

The Georgian Bay Steam Show Grounds, 4635 Victoria St W, Cookstown — one grounds, whatever address variant a listing carries — host the town's two biggest field weekends. The Georgian Bay Steam Show fills the Civic Holiday weekend with antique steam, auto and gas machinery; the 2026 edition ran July 31 to August 3. Three weeks later the same grounds hold Gussapolooza, the independent music and arts festival whose fifth annual edition ran August 21 to 23, 2026 — forty-plus independent Canadian artists, art installations, comedy and festival camping. In June the village itself is the venue: the Cookstown Wing Ding, the chamber's town-wide garage-sale and vendor day, ran its 43rd edition on June 6, 2026, and the 8th Innisfil Ribfest took over Tanger Outlets Cookstown June 19 to 21. Cookstown's other famous fixture needs the honest label: its agricultural fair is a documented tradition — the society's fair booklets run to a 142nd fair in 2000 — but no current fair edition is verified, and none is listed as a thing to do. A place name is not a fair.

The ideaLAB: three branches and a maker culture

The Innisfil ideaLAB & Library is the most consistently bookable thing in town. Its three branches — Lakeshore, 967 Innisfil Beach Rd, Alcona; Cookstown, 20 Church St; Stroud, 7883 Yonge St — run HackLAB and MediaLAB maker spaces, storytimes, seniors' sessions and book clubs on a dated, branch-filtered calendar. This fall's staged instances all sit at Lakeshore: the Morning Book Club (Tuesday, October 13, 11 a.m.), the Writer's Fair (Saturday, October 24, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and the Evening Book Club (Thursday, October 29, 6 p.m.) — registration required, waitlists in effect. Its signature festival, MakerFEST, ran its 12th annual edition on September 12, 2026. Two branch traps are worth the ink: there is no fourth branch — Churchill closed in 2022, and directories showing it are stale — and the branches are the library's, so the Stroud branch sharing an address with the arena and curling club makes three neighbours, not one listing.

On the ice: Winterhawks, and a curling club with no dates to sell you

Innisfil's winter culture runs on its three arena sites. The Innisfil Winterhawks — the minor hockey association that carries the town's name — skate at the Innisfil Recreational Complex in Alcona, the Stroud pad and Morgan Russell in Lefroy, and the Recreational Complex adds a pool and YMCA programming under the same roof. Fixtures live on the association's published schedules; this page carries the teams and their seats and derives no home dates. Beside the Stroud pad, the Stroud Curling Club (7883 Yonge St) is verified live for the 2026-27 season from its own site — registration published, the club side open through the recreation-building works — and its CurlingIO record lists league curling, bonspiels, junior curling and learn-to-curl programming. What cannot honestly be printed is a date: no dated bonspiel or learn-to-curl list was published on a surface the crew could read, so zero dated curling records are staged, and the club's own events surface is the place a first bonspiel date will appear. Its founding year and sheet count are likewise unprinted — the club's own surfaces disagree on both, and neither figure is settled here. Come freeze-up, the lake takes over: Cook's Bay ice fishing, with hut operators on Innisfil's own shore — Hot Box Huts on the 2nd Line and Terry Goy Fish Hut Rentals at 277 Beach Rd in Gilford — over perch and pike grounds. The season is ice-dependent and carries no dates; anyone who prints you an opening day is guessing at the weather.

Everyday Innisfil: the park, the square, the market in season

Innisfil Beach Park in Alcona — roughly a kilometre of shoreline — is the town's front porch: swimming and shore in summer, the Town's Canada Day pattern and the Santa parade's seat in their seasons, and Innisfil Town Square beside it carries the splash pad, the winter skating trail and fixtures like InnisFALL (October 3, 2026). For food, know what is verified and what is not: the Innisfil Farmers' Market is the town's market — Thursdays, 1 to 6 p.m., Stroud Arena north lot — in season; its 2026 season concluded on October 8, 2026, and it returns in spring. What Innisfil does not publish is a recurring community meal: the Innisfil Food Bank (Innisfil Community Church, Alcona, by appointment) and the Troy Scott Community Fridges are food provision, verified and valuable, and they are listed as themselves — never dressed as a sit-down meal that was not found.

The festival spine, and what is not on this list

Plan a year around Innisfil and it hangs on these fixtures, all recorded with their real 2026 dates on the events page: Friday Harbour's Easter Egg Hunt (Apr 5), the Cookstown Wing Ding (Jun 6), Ribfest (Jun 19–21), Friday Harbour's Canada Day fireworks (Jul 1, the resort's), the Georgian Bay Steam Show (Jul 31–Aug 3), RockStock (Aug 14–16), Gussapolooza (Aug 21–23), MakerFEST (Sep 12), InnisFALL (Oct 3) and Diwali Utsav (Oct 24, still ahead). Absent by verification, not oversight: a current Cookstown fair (historic only), a dated curling slate (none published), Friday Harbour's Holiday Market dates (unpublished for 2026) and the Alcona Santa Parade's 2026 date (the organizer publishes it; it is never derived).

Absent by boundary: Barrie. The Colts, Sadlon Arena, Barrie's cinemas and St Mary's parish are twelve kilometres away and are Barrie's — Innisfil residents use them, and these pages still do not list them as Innisfil things to do. The same discipline keeps Georgina's shore across Cook's Bay, Bradford West Gwillimbury's greenhouses and parade, Essa's Barrie Fair, and the Ontario SPCA's Barrie shelter — which serves Innisfil from Barrie — out of this list. Near Innisfil is not in Innisfil.

Common questions

What is there to do in Innisfil this fall?

The Writer's Fair and book clubs at the Lakeshore Branch library, Diwali Utsav in Churchill on October 24, Friday Harbour's Promenade at Big Bay Point, the shore at Innisfil Beach Park, and Town/YMCA drop-ins at the Recreational Complex. The farmers' market season has concluded until spring, and the Stroud Curling Club is registering for 2026-27 — check the club for its dated list.

Is there a movie theatre in Innisfil?

No. Innisfil has no cinema. The South Simcoe Theatre in Cookstown is a live community theatre; the cinemas serving Innisfil postal codes are in Barrie and are listed as Barrie's.

Is Friday Harbour in Innisfil?

Yes — 3999 Friday Drive, Big Bay Point, is inside the town, and its public programme is Innisfil content. Its events are the resort's own productions; its Canada Day fireworks, for instance, are never the Town's.

How do I try curling in Innisfil?

Through the Stroud Curling Club at 7883 Yonge St, Stroud, whose CurlingIO record lists learn-to-curl and junior programming and whose own site carries 2026-27 registration. No dated learn-to-curl sessions were published on a surface the town crew could read, so none are printed here — the club's own events list is the surface to check.

When is the farmers' market?

Thursdays, 1 to 6 p.m. in the Stroud Arena north lot — in season. The verified 2026 season ran May 28 to October 8, 2026 and has concluded; the market returns in spring.
