Illustration of Phuket Old Town: pastel shophouses and lantern-lit market stalls — the island shops best after dark

Phuket's retail story is written on two surfaces: the Sino-Portuguese shophouses of the Old Town — Thalang, Dibuk, Phang Nga, Yaowarat, Thep Krasattri, Ratsada, Montri roads — and the night markets that light up after the heat breaks. Market hours below were verified March 2026; Thai holidays occasionally close things without warning. Eleven verified picks (2026-10-01).

The markets

Markets are the evening plan in Phuket, not the morning one. Eat your way through; haggle gently everywhere except the food stalls.

Thalang Rd, Old Town

Every Sunday 16:00-22:00; 300+ stalls; food + crafts; most photogenic; Sunday only

Chillva Market

Yaowarat Rd, Phuket Town

Evenings (closed Sundays), 17:00-23:00; locals' favourite, live music, young crowd

Naka Weekend Market (Phuket Weekend Market)

Wirat Hong Yok Rd, nr Central

Sat-Sun 16:00-22:00; 500+ stalls; largest; clothes/gadgets/souvenirs

Talat Yai (City Central Market)

Phuket Town

Daily fresh market; most vibrant from ~16:00; food-first

Phuket Indy Market

Dibuk/Limelight, Old Town

Wed-Fri (some sources Wed-Thu) 16:00-22:00; handmade crafts, young designers

Banzaan Night Market

Patong (near Jungceylon)

Most evenings from ~17:00; cook-to-order fresh seafood

Karon Temple Market

Karon (Patak Rd)

Tue + Fri 12:00-22:00; temple-backdrop food market, local prices

Fun Friday Avenue Market

Bang Tao (Boat Avenue)

Fridays from ~16:00; expat-family food trucks

Malin Plaza

Patong

Daily from ~18:00, Rat-U-Thit Rd; tourist-convenient street food

Lard Yai is the flagship: every Sunday 16:00–22:00 on Thalang Road, 300-plus stalls of food and crafts on the island's most photogenic street — Sunday only, do not show up on a Tuesday. Naka Weekend Market is the biggest room: 500-plus stalls Saturday and Sunday 16:00–22:00 near Central, clothes and gadgets and souvenirs. Chillva on Yaowarat is the locals' favourite — evenings except Sundays, live music, young crowd. Phuket Indy at Dibuk/Limelight does handmade crafts from young designers Wednesday to Friday. For daytime, Talat Yai is the daily fresh market, most vibrant from around 16:00, food-first. Note the Chillva days conflict across sources (Mon–Sat vs Thu–Sat vs Wed–Fri) — treat it as most evenings, closed Sundays, and verify locally.

The malls

When the rain comes sideways, the malls are the shelter plan — and both are substantial.

Jungceylon

Patong

Patong's main mall (1B-Baht 2024 'New Chapter' renovation); dining, cinema SF Cinema; 181 Rat-u-thit 200 Pee Rd

Central Phuket (Floresta/Festival)

Phuket Town

Island's shopping hub, 120+ stores, Aquaria on B1 Floresta; 74-75 Wichitsongkram Rd, daily 10:30am-10pm

Jungceylon is Patong's main mall after its billion-baht 2024 'New Chapter' renovation — dining, shopping and the SF Cinema under one roof at 181 Rat-u-thit 200 Pee Road. Central Phuket in town is the island's shopping hub: 120-plus stores, daily 10:30 am to 10 pm, with Aquaria Phuket sitting on B1 of the Floresta wing for the full rainy-day combo.
