Rooftop Bars & Terraces in Fez
Fez is a rooftop city. The medina is a maze at street level and a panorama from above — and the riads know it. Rooftop terraces are where Fez does its evenings: mint tea at sunset, dinner under the stars, the call to prayer rolling over the rooftops.
Most terraces serve tea and food rather than alcohol (Fez is a dry-ish city — see our honest nightlife guide), but for views and atmosphere they're unbeatable.
Riad rooftops: the classic Fez evening

The classic Fez rooftop evening starts at a riad terrace. Order mint tea (or a glass of wine where licensed), watch the light change over the medina's rooftops, and stay for dinner if the kitchen's good. The tanneries, the minarets, the hills beyond — it all reads better from above.
Café Clock's rooftop is the most famous terrace in the medina: casual, lively, and reliably good for a sunset mint tea or a camel burger with a view. It's the easy, no-booking-needed option.
For something more polished, the rooftop bar at Palais Amani is licensed and does the full sunset-drinks-to-dinner arc, with the medina spread out below. Book ahead — it's small and popular.
Café Clock rooftop
7 Derb El Magana, Talaa Kebira, Fes 30000
The most famous rooftop terrace in the medina. Casual café fare (the camel burger is the signature), mint tea, and a sweeping view over the old city. Lively in the evenings; get there before sunset for a good table.
Best for: Easy sunset — no booking, great atmosphere
Palais Amani rooftop bar
12 Derb El Miter, Rue Oued Zhoune, Fes 30000
Licensed rooftop bar at one of the medina's top riads, with dinner service below at Eden restaurant. The polished option — book ahead, dress up a bit, watch the light go down over Fes el-Bali.
Best for: Sunset drinks that turn into dinner

Beyond the famous terraces
Beyond the famous names, half the riads in the medina have a terrace, and most serve breakfast up there — which means your own accommodation might be your best rooftop. Ask at check-in whether the terrace does dinner or drinks; many smaller riads will happily serve you tea and a tagine upstairs if you ask in the morning.
For the classic postcard view, the hills around the city — the Borj Nord and Borj Sud fortresses, and the viewpoint near the Merenid Tombs — give you the whole medina in one frame. Go at sunset, not midday, and take a taxi up.
Practical tips
- Sunset is the golden hour — arrive 30–45 minutes before sundown for the best tables.
- Rooftop restaurants fill up; book dinner terraces a day ahead in high season.
- Bring a layer — Fez evenings cool down fast, even in summer.
- Most medina rooftops are accessed by steep stairs; not ideal for limited mobility.
In Fez, the best seat in the house is always upstairs. Get up there before the light goes.
