Things to Do at Night in Fez
Fez nights are short: the medina quiets down early, the bars are few, and the city runs on an early schedule. But the evenings have their own magic — rooftops at sunset, the lit medina, music in season — if you know where to look.
Every real option for a Fez evening, honestly presented.

The Fez evening starts on a rooftop. Café Clock's terrace at sunset — mint tea, the medina glowing, the call to prayer rolling over the rooftops — is the essential Fez evening and it's free with a drink. Palais Amani's rooftop bar is the polished version, with dinner at Eden below.
Dinner is the evening's main event: the riad restaurants (The Ruined Garden, Dar Roumana, La Maison Bleue) serve in courtyards and gardens that are at their best after dark. Book ahead — the good rooms are small and they fill.

Music nights (in season)
In season, Fez does music after dark properly. The Festival de Fès de la culture soufie (18th edition: October 17–24, 2026) puts evening concerts on at Bab El Makina — Sufi brotherhoods, sacred music, a genuinely moving atmosphere. The Festival of World Sacred Music (June) does the same on a bigger stage.
Café Clock hosts live music some evenings — check their schedule; the Wednesday jam sessions and Sunday traditional music nights are long-running. The Institut Français de Fès programmes concerts and cultural evenings through the season.

Bab El Makina and venues across Fes
The 18th Fes Festival of Sufi Culture and World Wisdom runs October 17–24, 2026, with evening concerts at Bab El Makina and venues across the city — Sufi music, poetry, and sacred traditions. The only true 'night out' Fez offers; book ahead.

After dinner, the options narrow honestly: a late café on Avenue Hassan II (the new-town cafés stay busy past midnight), a nightcap at a hotel bar, or a slow walk on the lit main streets near Boujloud before the medina sleeps.
The Merenid Tombs after dark are for the view of the lit medina below — go with a taxi waiting, don't walk. And the honest truth: the best Fez nights end by eleven, and the best Fez mornings start early. The city rewards the early riser.
Practical tips
- Sunset is the main event — plan your evening around it, not after it.
- Take taxis door-to-door after dark; the medina is maze-like and poorly lit.
- Most restaurants stop seating by 9:30–10pm — eat earlier than you would at home.
- In festival season (Sufi Festival October, Sacred Music June), book evening concerts ahead.
Fez after dark is short and sweet. Plan for it, enjoy it, and be in bed at a reasonable hour — the medina starts early.
