Solo travel in Raikot

Compact, walkable and welcoming - Raikot is one of the easier solo stops in Malwa. Here's how to do it.

Raikot on your own

Raikot is an easy solo town: compact, walkable in the centre, and with langar at the gurudwara you never have to eat alone unless you want to. The morning kirtan at Tahliana Sahib, the Kutba Gate walk, the mandi at dawn - all of it works better solo, at your own pace.

Practical notes

Getting around: autos for every hop; nothing in town is more than 10 minutes apart. For Bassian and Malerkotla, hire the auto or taxi for the half day - agree the price first.

Eating solo: dhabas are completely normal solo - nobody looks twice. Langar is the most welcoming meal in town.

Etiquette: cover your head in every gurudwara (scarves at the entrance), remove shoes, wash hands. Dress modestly - this is a religious town and it notices.

Safety: the main roads and bazaar are lively till late; the town is straightforward and low-hassle for solo travellers, including women, by small-town Punjab standards. Stick to lit roads after dark.

Common questions
