Things to do in Grimsby
The standing Grimsby list — the places that are here whether or not anything is scheduled. An Escarpment waterfall and hawk watch, a waterfront park that has officially opened, a 1798 merchant's house, a book-arts gallery, junior hockey in a building that reopened in January 2026, and a Thursday market in season. Everything below is seated in Grimsby by its own address; where a beloved thing turns out not to exist here — a cinema, a fall fair — this page says so instead of borrowing a neighbour's.
Photos for Grimsby are still on their way. Every listing below is real.
The Escarpment: Beamer Falls and the Bruce Trail
Beamer Memorial Conservation Area (28 Quarry Road) is the town's outdoor signature: a passive conservation area on the Bruce Trail at the Escarpment edge, managed by the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority and seated in Grimsby, with Beamer Falls, Escarpment lookouts and the spring HawkWatch that tracks migrating raptors over the point. Entry and parking were attested free at visitor and authority-summary grade in the records behind this guide — check the NPCA before a long drive, but expect a walker's park, not an attraction gate: trails, lookouts, and the Forty Mile Creek valley below.
Down at the shore, the Waterfront Trail and Forty Mile Creek give the town its flat-water walking, and Casablanca Waterfront Park — officially open to the public, with its ribbon-cutting held — anchors the west end. Beside it, Grimsby Beach is known for its Painted Ladies, the colourfully painted Victorian cottages that make the neighbourhood a slow walk in itself.
Two museums and a gallery, all Town-anchored
Nelles Manor Museum, 126 Main Street West, is the town's independent heritage house — a charitable museum in a house built in 1798, running concerts, ghost tours and arts programming. It is not a Town facility, and this guide credits it as its own. The Grimsby Museum, 6 Murray Street, is the Town's museum — exhibitions, ticketed public programmes including Graveyard Tours at St. Andrew's graveyard, the cenotaph on site, and the Rotary Fantasy of Trees in the Christmas season (2026 dates unpublished at build — see the city page).
The Grimsby Public Art Gallery, 18 Carnegie Lane, shares its building with the public library and punches well above the town's weight: exhibitions, classes and workshops for all ages, and the Wayzgoose Book Arts Fair each April. The building is a producing cultural house in its own right — library programmes, gallery shows, the Author Series and gala events all run out of this one address. Across downtown, the restored Carnegie Commons at 25 Adelaide Street — the former Carnegie library building — works as a heritage event venue with ticketed programming, and Station 1 Coffeehouse, 28 Main Street East, occupies the old fire hall; its Firehall Concert series is verified in 2019, and no dated 2026 programme was verified for it — check before you count on a show.
Hockey night and market afternoon: the weekly rhythm
The Grimsby Peach Kings are the town's team — junior hockey at the Peach King Centre since the club's founding in 1922, playing in the Provincial Junior Hockey League's Bloomfield Division, colours maroon, white and gold, with five Clarence Schmalz Cups in the record (1940, 2003, 2004, 2011, 2012). The 2026–27 season is under way; the sports page carries what the records verify about fixtures, and the league's own schedule is the place to confirm a given Friday night.
In season, Thursdays belong to the Grimsby Farmers' Market — 3:00–7:00 p.m. from the beginning of June until Thanksgiving. The 2026 season moved mid-stream: three June Thursdays downtown on Main Street East, then the Peach King Centre parking lot behind Town Hall from June 25. One directory disagrees on hours and start date; the conflict is flagged on the city page and the market's own site (grimsbyfarmersmarket.ca) is the final word. The final 2026 market day was Thursday, October 8, 2026 — so the market is done for the year, said plainly rather than listing a market that has closed for the season.
Parks, pools and the everyday outdoors
The Town's recreation circuit runs from the Peach King Centre (twin pads, outdoor rink, splash pad, fitness centre — the summer splash pad is a family staple) to Southward Community Park (soccer fields, baseball diamonds and a 2.5 km perimeter trail), Coronation Park (the Town's seasonal-events park — Canada Day, the Moonlight Market, Grimsby Glows), Centennial and Murray Street parks, the Grimsby Lions Community Pool, the Grimsby Tennis Club courts at 46 St. Andrews Avenue, and the Steve McDonnell Leash-Free Dog Park at 170 Lake Street. The garden layer has its own anchor: Cole's Florist and Garden Centre, 147 Main Street East, the town's historic florist, founded by the organiser of the 1895 Grimsby Horticultural Society — whose modern form, the Grimsby Garden Club, holds speaker meetings at the Peach King Centre (its own newsletter dates a “Gardening from a Hammock” talk to Thursday, October 29, 2026).
What is not here (so you don't drive looking for it)
No cinema has operated in Grimsby since the Roxy closed in 1983. No agricultural fair is seated here — the West Niagara Fair is West Lincoln's. The Twenty Valley wineries around Jordan and Vineland are Lincoln's wine country; Grimsby's own in-town wine and spirits anchors are the ones the Town's tourism plan names in town, including Forty Creek Distillery and in-town wineries such as Commisso Estate — named here as the Town's plan names them, at that grade. Fifty Point Conservation Area, just west, is Stoney Creek's (Hamilton). Each of those neighbours has its own Dayfari record; this page keeps Grimsby's list to Grimsby.
