Markets & local food
Alma's markets page: the honest version
No marché public -- a co-op kiosk instead, a neighbour's market labelled, and a Christmas form with its caveat.
Markets and local food in Alma: there is no marché public -- and here is what there is
This page exists to tell the truth a directory will not: Alma has no farmers' market, and planning a Saturday around one will fail. What the town has instead is better suited to its size -- a food co-op's year-round kiosk with two standing half-days a week, a Christmas-market form in November, and a real marché public one town over, labelled as its own. Each piece prints at its true category.
the Coopérative NORD-Bio's Écomarché kiosk, 428 rue Collard -- a co-op storefront and boutique, open year-round on the co-op's own published hours: Thursdays 12 h 00-17 h 30 and Fridays 9 h 00-13 h 00, with an online ordering platform and regional pickup points beyond it. It is printed here as exactly what it is -- a co-op shop with standing retail hours -- and NEVER as a market: a permanent storefront is not a marché public, and no amount of local-food virtue changes the category.
The local-food bench, honestly sorted
The kiosk (NOT a market)
The co-op's own surface publishes the Alma point's hours -- Thursdays 12 h 00-17 h 30, Fridays 9 h 00-13 h 00 -- and its regional profile describes the physical kiosk as open those same two half-days, all year. It is the town's local-food anchor: a permanent storefront with standing retail hours, an online ordering platform behind it, and regional pickup points that are those towns' geography, not Alma's. Build the food run around the half-days and it will never disappoint; call it a market and it will.
The near market (OUTSIDE town)
The nearest real marché public is Saint-Gédéon's, where NORD-Bio itself sells on summer Saturdays -- the seat is Saint-Gédéon's, the market is Saint-Gédéon's, and it appears here only so an Alma traveller plans it as a trip, from that market's own surfaces. The Marchés de Saguenay are likewise Saguenay's. Neither is imported into Alma's record, however short the drive.
The Christmas form
Alma's seasonal market-shaped event is its Christmas market: the Marché de Noël du Grandiose, carried in the regional tourism guide at Nov 7-9 with the YEAR not asserted. This guide prints the form and the caveat together -- verify the current edition on the organizer's own surface before planning a trip around it, and let the December re-read settle it.
The verdict, and the project that is not a market
No marché public series is seated in Alma -- that is a settled verdict, not a gap in the research. No Alma-seated operator publishes a market cadence on its own surface, and the Association des marchés publics du Québec listings reached carry no Alma market. The Marché public de Saint-Gédéon, where NORD-Bio sells on summer Saturdays, is Saint-Gédéon's market; the Marchés de Saguenay are Saguenay's. Neither is imported here.
One more trap, closed in print: the Terrasses des Cascades (525 rue Sacré-Cœur) is a VENUE on the Ville's calendar, and a gazetteer passage describes a marché public there as a planned downtown project. A plan is not an operating market -- it prints here as a project, never as a series with days and hours. If an operator's own surface ever publishes an Alma marché public with a current-season cadence, this page converts it to a staged series from that surface. Until then, the kiosk is the anchor and the anchor is enough.
Common questions
Is there a farmers' market in Alma?
No. No marché public series is seated in Alma -- no operator publishes one and the AMPQ listings reached carry none. Alma's local-food anchor is the Coopérative NORD-Bio Écomarché kiosk (428 rue Collard, Thu 12 h 00-17 h 30 / Fri 9 h 00-13 h 00), a co-op storefront that this guide never calls a market.
Where is the nearest real farmers' market to Alma?
The Marché public de Saint-Gédéon, in Saint-Gédéon -- that town's market, where NORD-Bio sells on summer Saturdays. It is presented here as a day-trip destination, never as Alma content.
