Itineraries

Lakeshore itineraries: a lake, a fair town and a parade in a town of 40,410

One day by community, a weekend around the fair or the ice, a week on the town's weekly systems -- the shapes that actually work.

One day in Lakeshore: Belle River's lake and library, then a rink evening

A Lakeshore day works best community by community, because the town is a string of places along a lake. Start in Belle River, where the cluster stacks close: Town Hall on Notre Dame Street, the main street the BIA animates, Lakeview Park and West Beach at the end of Lake Street, and the marina beside them. Belle River Marina, 100 Lake Street, Belle River -- the Municipality's own full-service deep-water marina on Lake St. Clair, with some 250 slips beside Lakeview Park and West Beach. The Town's published 2026 season ran April 25 to October 12. Around it sits the town's marina cluster along the Belle River and Lake St. Clair shore, running east to Lighthouse Cove at the mouth of the Thames River

Give the afternoon to the Atlas Tube Centre and the library branch inside it, then choose the evening the town actually offers: a hockey night, a Legion fixture, or a main-street stroll when the BIA programmes one. The next dated one is close: Lakeshore's dated festival spine, each fixture on its host's own published record: the 167th Comber Fair in Comber (Friday August 7 to Sunday August 9, 2026 -- past at this build, and carried here as the town's fair canon), run by the Comber Agricultural Society, seated in Comber; the Belle River BIA's Stroll the Street, Thanksgiving edition, on Notre Dame Street in Belle River (Friday October 9, 2026, 6:00 to 8:30 p.m.); and the same BIA's Merry and Bright Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting in Belle River (Friday November 27, 2026). One festival is named here only to close it out: Belle River's Sunsplash Festival was cancelled by the Belle River BIA before the 2025 season, a decision the Municipality's own Mayor's Message confirms. There is no current Sunsplash edition, and no date is ever derived for it from its old July pattern

Two and three days: fair, lake and village shapes

The fair weekend

Comber and Belle River -- early August, the fair's own window

the Comber Fair, run by the Comber Agricultural Society from the fairgrounds in Comber (the society's own civic form, carried in the provincial association directory, is 6400 Main Street, Comber). The fair is older than Confederation -- the Town's own event copy dates the tradition to 1859 -- and its 167th edition ran Friday August 7 to Sunday August 9, 2026, with homecrafts, 4-H exhibits and competitions, livestock, a parade, fireworks and a demolition derby on the Sunday at 1:30 p.m. That edition is past at this build. No 2027 dates have been published by the society or the provincial directory, and none are derived here from the early-August pattern Build the weekend around the fairgrounds and the lake: the fair by day, Belle River's shore by evening.

The lake weekend

Belle River and Lighthouse Cove -- the water first

Lake St. Clair is Lakeshore's signature water: a muskie, bass, walleye and perch fishery famous well beyond Essex County, worked by charter boats, pleasure craft and shore anglers out of Belle River, Puce and Lighthouse Cove. Its organized culture is seated in town -- the Belle River - Lake St. Clair Chapter of Muskies Canada is based in Belle River, meeting monthly on the second Friday at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 399. The season is water- and weather-dependent: this is a culture layer, printed without fixed dates Pair a marina morning with a shore-village drive east to Lighthouse Cove and a beach afternoon at West Beach, and the weekend is Lakeshore at full stretch without leaving it.

The parade weekend

Belle River -- Friday November 27, 2026

Late November belongs to the BIA: the Merry and Bright Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting down Notre Dame Street on Friday November 27, 2026, with the BIA's Christmas Market alongside (the BIA's own page carries vendor registration for parade night). The parade steps off at 6 p.m. in the BIA listing the town's seasonal record carries. Pair it with a Canadiens night and a library-branch morning, and the cold-season weekend is complete.

A week, or a season, in Lakeshore

A week here runs on the town's weekly systems: the library calendar across four branches, Legion fixtures in Belle River and Comber, Town programmes at the Atlas Tube Centre, the Libro Centre and the Comber Community Centre, and a lake that is a beach in July and a working fishery all year. Day out, by purpose: Windsor as itself (outside town), Tecumseh as itself (outside town), Detroit across the border as itself. One honest limit shapes every long stay: Lakeshore's evenings run on the rink, the halls and the BIA calendar -- on the town itself, which for a community of 40,410 is a deep bench. There is no hospital in Lakeshore -- hospital care is delivered from Windsor and Leamington institutions, stated plainly so a long stay plans around the fact.

Common questions

How many days do you need in Lakeshore?

One full day covers Belle River's lake, marina and library cluster and a rink evening. Two to three days is the sweet spot -- a fair, lake or parade weekend. A week works if you plug into the weekly systems: the library calendar, the Legions, the recreation centres and the lake.

When is the best weekend to visit Lakeshore?

Fair weekend in early August for scale; Stroll the Street on Thanksgiving weekend (Friday October 9, 2026) for the main street at its best; parade night (Friday November 27, 2026) for the cold-season flagship; or any winter weekend with a Canadiens home night for the town at working speed.
