When Jeju's weather turns -- and it turns fast -- the city has a deeper indoor bench than you'd expect. A computer museum with a working Apple 1, the national museum, a media-art supermarket, and the covered halls of Dongmun Market.

Rainy-day Jeju is a museum town

Jeju's weather turns fast -- a typhoon-season downpour or a winter squall can erase the outdoors for a day. The good news: Jeju City's indoor bench is deeper than it looks, and the best of it is genuinely good, not consolation-prize good.

The museums

Nexon Computer Museum

3198-8 1100-ro, Nohyeong-dong

The standout: four floors of computing history from Korea's gaming giant -- a working Apple 1 (one of six left in the world), playable retro arcade cabinets, VR and robot exhibits. The B1 cafe does keyboard-shaped waffles. Tue-Sun 10am-6pm, closed Mondays; adult admission 8,000 won. Near Halla Arboretum -- pair them.

Jeju National Museum (국립제주박물관)

17 Iljudong-ro, Geonip-dong

The island's history in one building: Tamna kingdom artifacts, the island's volcanic and maritime story, rotating special exhibitions. Tue-Sun 9am-6pm, closed Mondays. The serious-history counterweight to the beach.

Jeju Folklore & Natural History Museum

Ildo-dong

Folk life and natural history under one roof -- haenyeo culture, shamanism, the island's flora and fauna. The cultural context that makes the outdoor sights make sense. Verify current hours before going.

Arario Museum Tapdong Cinema

Tapdong

Contemporary art in a converted cinema -- the edgy downtown museum, and the shop is worth the visit on its own. Pairs naturally with a Tapdong evening.

The wildcard

Nohyeong Supermarket (노형수퍼마켙)

89 Nohyeong-ro

A media-art theme park in a converted supermarket: 20-meter media walls, five exhibits on a 'journey of identity' concept, plus the monochrome Nohyung Dabang cafe and a souvenir shop. The rainy-day surprise -- genuinely impressive scale, very photographable.

More indoor options

The Dongmun Market halls are covered -- a rainy morning there is arguably better than a sunny one. Jeju City's multiplexes (CGV, Lotte Cinema, Megabox) run Korean films with English subtitles on select screenings; the Jeju Cine Island arthouse cinema is the cinephile pick if it's running a program. And the island's jjimjilbang (bathhouses) are the classic bad-weather move -- verify the specific one is operating before you go.

Common questions

What is there to do in Jeju when it rains?

Nexon Computer Museum, Jeju National Museum, the Folklore & Natural History Museum, Arario Museum in Tapdong, and the Nohyeong Supermarket media-art park -- plus the covered halls of Dongmun Market. That's a full rainy day without repeating yourself.

Is the Nexon Computer Museum worth visiting?

Yes -- it's the best museum in Jeju City for most visitors: a working Apple 1, playable retro arcade games, VR exhibits, and keyboard waffles. Tue-Sun 10am-6pm, closed Mondays, 8,000 won for adults.

Are Jeju's museums open on Mondays?

Mostly not -- the Nexon Computer Museum, Jeju National Museum and many others close Mondays. Plan museum days for Tuesday through Sunday.
