Classes and experiences in Hunucmá

Hunucmá's class layer is real and mostly uncalendared: a named adult-education module, two teaching cultural houses, and a deep school bench — with no timetable invented for any of them.

The split verdict, kept split

Yucatán's Bellas Artes CEBA system has NO Hunucmá sede — the 2026–27 convocatorias cover Mérida and Valladolid only, as in every sibling town. But Hunucmá differs from its siblings on the adult-education side: the SEGEY module list DOES name a Hunucmá CEBA module — the Luis Álvarez Barret module, Calle 26 s/n x 31 y 29, evening shift (turno vespertino), offering free primary and secondary completion with official validity. A module is not a sede and is never promoted to one here; the list gives a shift, not days or times, so no class series is generated from it. Adult education more broadly is administered for Hunucmá by IEAEY's Coordinación de Zona No. 01, seated in Umán — settled from the institute's own directory, whose municipality list names Hunucmá expressly. Hunucmá is NOT an ACREDITABACH sede (COBAY's convocatorias name Mérida sedes only) — having a COBAY plantel, which Hunucmá does, does not make it one, and the two facts are kept apart on every page.

The teaching houses

Hunucmá has TWO cultural operators and they are never merged: the municipal Casa de la Cultura (an Ayuntamiento unit with courses documented in the press, but NO SIC ficha — a genuine miss in the national culture directory — and no published programme) and the independent Centro Cultural Yol-Izma (Calle 34A No. 255, Col. Álvaro Obregón; SIC-listed, with its own theatre of about 180 seats built over more than twenty years, and a venue of Sedeculta's Otoño Cultural and the 2026 state theatre congress). Neither publishes a calendar, so no page invents one. Both teach — the Casa through the Ayuntamiento's education and culture direction (courses press-documented; a state community symphony orchestra was formed in Hunucmá in its orbit), Yol-Izma as a cultural centre and school with its own theatre companies — and neither publishes a timetable a page could honestly copy. The way in is the way locals use: ask at the house. Around them sits the school bench that frames family classes: COBAY Plantel Hunucmá (31ECB0040L) and CECyTEY Plantel 02 (31ETC0002Y) for bachillerato, the telebachilleratos in Texán and Sisal for the comisarías, and a Feb 2025 TecNM Mérida–Ayuntamiento agreement that brings Mérida students to Hunucmá for service and residencies — a partnership, never a campus: Hunucmá has no university, and the UPY campus at Ucú (13.3 km) is proximity only.

Experience-shaped learning

The experiences this town genuinely offers are its crafts and customs: the footwear trade behind the feria's exhibition (Hunucmá is a shoe town — the bazar's shops are the retail face of it), the Enramada's harvest-offering craft each June, and the gremio system itself — the Gremio de Niños, running since 1979 in the Tetiz devotion, is how Hunucmá's fiesta knowledge is actually taught, generation to generation. None of these runs a bookable class; all of them reward the visitor who shows up in season and asks.

Common questions

Can adults finish primary or secondary school in Hunucmá?

Yes — the CEBA Luis Álvarez Barret module (Calle 26 s/n x 31 y 29, evening shift) offers free completion with official validity, and IEAEY Zone 01 (Umán) administers adult education for the municipality. It is a module, not a Bellas Artes sede.

Are there art classes in Hunucmá?

The Casa de la Cultura (municipal) and the Centro Cultural Yol-Izma (independent) both teach, but neither publishes a timetable — ask at the house. No Bellas Artes CEBA sede exists in Hunucmá.
