Sisal, Yucatán: the port locality of Hunucmá municipality, shown as itself

Indoor activities

Indoor activities in Hunucmá

For heat, rain or a quiet afternoon: a Regional library, a handmade theatre, a 16th-century church — and a straight answer about the cinema.

The cinema answer first

There is no commercial cinema in Hunucmá, and no Hunucmá cartelera exists: the cine.red Yucatán index lists Mérida, Progreso, Valladolid, Tizimín and Motul — no Hunucmá section — and no SIC cinema record for the town was found. The municipality does have an itinerant community cinema, Cinema Paradiso Sisal with its Filmoteca UNAM film club — but it is sited in Sisal, belongs to Sisal's record, and is never imported here as a Hunucmá venue. Hunucmá's film trip is Mérida (29.8 km), where the cartelera, the malls and the late shows are. Anyone selling you a Hunucmá cinema listing is inventing it.

The real indoor layer

The library

Biblioteca José León Bojórquez García, Calle 25 s/n x 16 · Mon–Fri 08:00–20:00 (DGB ficha)

The anchor: a Regional-type public library (RNBP 1334) with reading rooms and home lending — the midday-heat and rain plan in one building. No weekend hours are published.

Yol-Izma's theatre

Centro Cultural Yol-Izma, Calle 34A No. 255, Col. Álvaro Obregón · when it programmes

An indoor stage of about 180 seats: its own regional-theatre company and state-circuit sessions (two free congress sessions ran here in August 2026). No calendar is published — ask at the centre; the theatre page of this guide tells the fuller story.

The parish and the temples

San Francisco de Asís, Calle 30 x 31 · Santiago Apóstol temple · chapels

Stone-cool interiors with the town's layered dedications: the ex-convent parish (the Cristo Negro's home), the separate 17th-century Santiago temple, and the San Antonio and Guadalupe chapels. Active places of worship — visit as a guest.

The bazar roof

Mercado Eulogio Rosado, on the plaza · daily 09:00–17:00 (place record)

The covered browse: shoes, clothing and artisan goods in the historic 1906 market building — the rainy-hour retail option, with its FY2026 rehabilitation authorised.

Teatro Municipal

Calle 30 x 27 y 25 · no cartelera published

A municipal theatre building exists on the record — named honestly as a building without a published programme, the same discipline as the Casa de la Cultura. If a cartelera ever appears, this page changes.

And the schools layer, for completeness

Families relocating rather than visiting ask about indoor provision for kids: Hunucmá's bachillerato bench is deep for its size — COBAY Plantel Hunucmá (clave 31ECB0040L) and CECyTEY Plantel 02 (31ETC0002Y) both exist in town — while no university sits in Hunucmá at all (the nearest, UPY's Ucú campus, is labelled proximity at 13.3 km). The classes page carries the after-school picture, including the CEBA module that actually exists here.
