Live music in Hunucmá
In Hunucmá, music follows the gremio calendar and the town's two cultural houses — not the listings sites.
Where the music is
The year's loudest weeks are set by the fiesta calendar. Hunucmá's patronal feria honours a VISITING image: the Virgen de la Asunción de Tetiz, whose home is Tetiz and who is carried to Hunucmá each winter for a stay of about fifteen days of gremio acts, crowned in the parish church. The municipal Expo Feria is held in her honour at the Explanada San Pool — embajadora coronation, artisan, gastronomy and footwear exhibition, and a closing magna vaquería; a feria listing gave the 2026 edition as 4–9 February. The cycle's dates MOVE year to year with the pre-Lenten calendar, so no 2027 date is printed anywhere on these pages: the dated programme lives in Hunucmá's Dayfari events feed when the parish and Ayuntamiento announce it, and these pages describe the season. The vaquería is the musical heart of it: jarana orchestras playing for hundreds of jaraneros in terno and guayabera — the dance that closes the feria and carries its proudest night. In June the Enramada cycle has its own music: a vaquería on 6 June in the 2026 season, around the harvest-offering enramada in the parish atrio.
The second layer is the theatre layer. Hunucmá has TWO cultural operators and they are never merged: the municipal Casa de la Cultura (an Ayuntamiento unit with courses documented in the press, but NO SIC ficha — a genuine miss in the national culture directory — and no published programme) and the independent Centro Cultural Yol-Izma (Calle 34A No. 255, Col. Álvaro Obregón; SIC-listed, with its own theatre of about 180 seats built over more than twenty years, and a venue of Sedeculta's Otoño Cultural and the 2026 state theatre congress). Neither publishes a calendar, so no page invents one. Yol-Izma is the live one for performance: Sedeculta's Otoño Cultural brought regional theatre to its stage in October 2021, and the state theatre congress held two free sessions there in August 2026 — proof the venue programmes in the present tense, even though it publishes no calendar a page could copy. There is no Hunucmá gig circuit and no ticketed Hunucmá listing on the regional platforms: every Yucatán ticketed listing found at research time was a Mérida venue. Music in Hunucmá is announced locally — at the parish, the Palacio Municipal and the cultural houses themselves.
