Events in Hunucmá, Yucatán
Hunucmá’s calendar runs on images that travel and a market that does not move. The year’s two great devotions both involve a journey: the Virgen de Tetiz comes to Hunucmá each winter for a stay of about fifteen days, and the town’s patronal feria is built around her visit; the Cristo Negro, which lives here, leaves in early August for its temporada in Sisal. Between them sits the town’s own signature custom, June’s La Enramada at Corpus Christi. And under everything, a rarity among small towns: the food market publishes daily hours and runs a daily series in the town feed. This page keeps every fixture at its true weight — the visiting image’s feria is documented with its moving dates honestly unfixed, San Francisco gets no invented feria, and two lines in the state profile that dated evidence contradicts are flagged, never printed as fact.
The live feed
The live feed already carries Hunucmá's daily market series. The Mercado Municipal publishes hours, so its daily occurrences are staged in the merged feed like any recurring event - the first daily series this crew has been able to stage in the last several towns. The fiesta fixtures below are the town crew's verified annual calendar, researched in October 2026 from the sibling tier files (Worker C's T43 list is canonical for fiesta fixtures, Worker F's T25 for the Patitas jornada). Where a cycle's dates move year to year, the card says so plainly instead of printing a mirrored window as if it were confirmed. No placeholder events, no invented programmes, no guesses.
Our tier workers have finished researching Hunucmá’s event sources: the parish cycle, the state fiesta profile, the market listings, the campaign press and the venue records. Unusually for a town this size, one source publishes a real schedule — the food market — so the merged feed carries its daily series alongside the dated fixtures. The rest of the town announces the old way, through the parish, the Ayuntamiento and the gremios, so this page lists what is verified, with every moving date and every conflict labeled where it appears.
Annual fixtures (verified)
These are documented in the town’s own record. The Tetiz cycle’s dates move, so its card documents the lineage instead of printing a window — the card says why:
Misión Patitas — Hunucmá's own sterilization jornada
The statewide Misión Patitas campaign (17–22 November 2026, six localities, a 1,000-animal circuit goal) has a stop of its own in Hunucmá — it does not only open in Sisal. Hunucmá’s surgery day is Wednesday 18 November 2026, with a target of 100 animals and a 100-peso recovery fee. Pre-registration is required and happens here: Sunday 11 October 2026, 09:00–11:00, at the Palacio Municipal. The surgery-day venue was not published in the sources found — it is confirmed at pre-registration, and we invent none. Organised with Planned Pethood México and Esterilizando Patitas among the campaign partners. Sisal’s opening stop (17 November) is that town’s own fixture, kept separate.
Hanal Pixán — the home-altar custom
Yucatán’s days of the dead are kept in Hunucmá the documented local way: the state municipal profile records the town’s own custom — the home altar with the dead’s favourite foods, mucbil pollo, new-corn atole and beaten chocolate. The independent Yol-Izma centre’s children’s ‘Master pib junior’ around the season is a real local custom too — undated for 2026 in any source found. No dated 2026 Hunucmá municipal programme is published, and none is invented here: the observance is the families’, and any public programme is the Ayuntamiento’s to announce.
La Llegada — the Virgen de Tetiz comes to stay, and the Expo Feria with her
Hunucmá’s fiesta mayor, and it belongs to a guest: the Virgen de la Asunción de Tetiz, fetched from her home town 8.5 km south by Hunucmá faithful, received with a welcome mass and kept for about fifteen days of gremio acts — the farmers’ gremio, the bronceadores’, the Gremio de Niños (running since 1979) and others, each bringing offerings — while the municipal Expo Feria runs at the Explanada San Pool: embajadora coronation at the concha acústica, artisan, gastronomy and footwear exhibitions, and a closing magna vaquería. The dated record, stated honestly: the image arrived on Sunday 22 January 2023 and was crowned in the parish; a feria listing gives Feria Hunucmá 2026, 4–9 February, in her honour. Those editions fall on different Sundays — no stable window or Sunday rule exists to mirror, and the state profile ties the timing to the moving Carnaval–Cuaresma cycle. The 2027 cycle will be emitted here only from the parish / Ayuntamiento announcement, expected around the turn of the year.
La Enramada — Corpus Christi season
Hunucmá’s signature tradition. In the atrio of San Francisco de Asís the town raises a wooden enramada displaying harvest offerings — fruit, breads, sweets, crafts — with an altar at each corner for the four cardinal points; masses and processions with the Santísimo bless the offerings, gremios take part, the Toro de Fuego is burned at night during the cycle and La Boxita on the Sunday after morning mass, with the offering exhibition repeating on three days in the cycle. Dated colour: a local record gives ramadas 3–11 June and a vaquería on 6 June 2026 under the Corpus Christi name — consistent with the movable feast (Thursday 4 June 2026). One conflict, never merged: the state profile’s ‘28–31 January Corpus Christi’ line is irreconcilable with a movable June feast and with every dated Hunucmá source; it is flagged as an error and printed nowhere as fact.
The Cristo Negro leaves home — the August departure
The Cristo Negro lives in Hunucmá’s Parroquia de San Francisco de Asís most of the year — recorded there since at least an 1853 diocesan inventory — under a custodians’ permission tradition that runs through this town. In early August the image leaves home for its temporada in Sisal’s Capilla de San José (in a dated year it arrived in Sisal on 1 August). What happens next is Sisal’s fiesta — the gremio season and the last-Sunday sea procession are staged in Sisal’s feed, on Sisal’s pages — and is deliberately not duplicated here as a Hunucmá event. No dated Hunucmá-side farewell or return observance was published in any source found; if the parish ever publishes one, it becomes this town’s own fixture then.
San Francisco de Asís — the parish dedication day
The 4th of October is the dedication feast of the parish itself — San Francisco de Asís, the saint the 16th-century ex-convent church is named for. It is carried at exactly that weight: a parish day, surfacing in Hunucmá mainly as parish life (the statewide pet-blessing pattern around his feast is the documented local colour). No Hunucmá San Francisco feria was found in any source, and any guide advertising one is inventing it — January here belongs to the Tetiz visit, and the feria with it.
National civic days — the T42 set
Mexico’s civic calendar is observed in Hunucmá at national scope — school and municipal ceremonies, the statutory holidays, the September Grito season — staged in the town feed from their fixed historical dates, with any Monday-shifted statutory observance noted on each listing. No town-specific programme for any of these days was published in the sources checked; the Ayuntamiento announces local acts as each date approaches.
Standing fixtures
The town’s weekly furniture — worth planning around on any visit, including the two honest gaps (two culture houses with no published calendar between them):
Mercado Municipal de Hunucmá — the daily market
The working food market at C. 26A 15, and Hunucmá’s standing fixture: it publishes hours, so its daily occurrences run as a staged series in the town feed — the Oxkutzcab-grade case, unlike the last several towns where no hours existed anywhere. Fruit, vegetables, seafood and prepared food from before dawn’s end; go in the morning. If the Ayuntamiento ever publishes official hours, they supersede both listings at once.
Mercado Eulogio Rosado — the bazar in the clock building
The historic market building on the plaza — the 1906 German-clock facade — is today a bazar of shoe, clothing and artisan shops, not a second food market, and it is never counted as one here. Its 2026 news is a modest authorised rehabilitation (MXN 301,600, municipal gazette) — refurbishment, not demolition or closure.
Biblioteca 'José León Bojórquez García'
The seat’s Regional-grade public library, federal network number 1334 (Sisal’s is 2011 — never cross-wired), at the Centro Comunitario Flores Magón, with home lending listed in its ficha. No programme calendar is published for it.
Centro Cultural Yol-Izma / Casa de la Cultura
Two distinct operators, never merged: the independent Yol-Izma centre (C. 34A No. 255) with its own ~180-seat theatre, and the municipal Casa de la Cultura under the Ayuntamiento — which holds no federal cultural-centre ficha and publishes no hours or programme. Yol-Izma programmes actively; the day either publishes a cartelera, it appears here with its source.
Municipal sport — softball, baseball, football
Softball is the living municipal game (the Amazonas de Yaxunah women’s side played a Hunucmá representative team in March 2023), at grounds including the Campo de Soft-Ball Ramón Ortíz Ceballos and the Campo de Béisbol Silverio Pat Chi. No league publishes fixtures and no current Hunucmá club plays the state circuits checked — ask locally what is on.
Christmas in Hunucmá — no published programme
Stated plainly because other towns’ programmes get borrowed too easily: no Hunucmá-published tree-lighting or December programme was found for 2025 or 2026. The historical layer is a touring caravan that routed Hunucmá (with Kinchil and Tetiz) in December 2022, and ramadas and posadas are documented statewide — neither is a 2026 Hunucmá programme. Re-check from mid-November.
Planning around a fixture
If you can time one trip, make it January–February — but time it late: the Tetiz cycle is announced around the turn of the year, and the visit, the gremio entries and the Expo Feria at San Pool follow that announcement, not any fixed window printed here or anywhere else. The connoisseur’s alternative is June: La Enramada’s offering ramadas in the churchyard, the Toro de Fuego at night and a vaquería in the Corpus Christi season — Hunucmá at its most itself. In early August, be here for the quieter, stranger privilege: seeing the Cristo Negro’s home church in the days its image leaves for Sisal — then follow it north if you want the fiesta, which is the port’s. And the warnings bear repeating: do not plan around a San Francisco feria (none exists), do not trust any ‘January Corpus Christi’ or ‘August Asunción in Hunucmá’ date (both are state-profile conflicts — the August window is Tetiz’s own patronal, at home), and register early for Misión Patitas if you are local: 11 October, 09:00–11:00, Palacio Municipal.
Common questions
Are there events in Hunucmá this weekend?
The standing fixture is the Mercado Municipal, daily 05:00-15:00 on its published record, whose occurrences run in the town feed. The dated fixtures are seasonal: the Tetiz visit and Expo Feria in January-February (2027 dates announced each January), La Enramada in June, the Cristo Negro's early-August departure for Sisal, Hanal Pixán on November 1-2, and the Misión Patitas jornada on November 18, 2026.
When is Hunucmá's feria, exactly?
Honestly: it moves. The feria is built around the stay of the Virgen de la Asunción de Tetiz, who stays about fifteen days in January-February - the 2023 arrival was Sunday, January 22, and a listing gives Feria Hunucmá 2026 as February 4-9. The state profile ties the timing to the Carnaval-Cuaresma cycle, so no fixed window or Sunday rule exists. The parish and Ayuntamiento announce each year's cycle around January, and that announcement governs.
What is La Enramada?
Hunucmá's Corpus Christi custom: a wooden ramada raised in the atrio of San Francisco de Asís displaying harvest offerings - fruit, breads, sweets, crafts - with an altar at each corner, blessed by masses and processions, with the Toro de Fuego burned at night and La Boxita on the closing Sunday. It is a June season: dated evidence gives ramadas June 3-11 and a vaquería on June 6, 2026.
Is there a Cristo Negro festival in Hunucmá in August?
No - there is a departure. The Cristo Negro lives in Hunucmá's San Francisco parish most of the year and leaves in early August for Sisal, where the fiesta season and the last-Sunday sea procession belong to Sisal's own record. We tell the home and departure story here and never duplicate Sisal's fixture as a Hunucmá event. No dated Hunucmá-side farewell observance has been published.
What is Misión Patitas in Hunucmá?
A dated stop of the statewide pet-sterilization campaign: surgery day Wednesday, November 18, 2026 in Hunucmá, target 100 animals, 100-peso recovery fee. Pre-registration is Sunday, October 11, 2026, 09:00-11:00 at the Palacio Municipal; the surgery venue is confirmed there - it was not published in advance.
