Classes & workshops

Learning in Midland: the art school, the marsh classroom, the mission school

Classes here live in three houses: the Cultural Centre, where Quest Art teaches; the Wye Marsh, where the classroom is a boardwalk; and the corridor, where the teaching is a blacksmith's forge and a naturalist's canoe. Here are the houses and their doors.

The town's houses of learning

the Midland Cultural Centre, on King Street in the downtown core, is the town's arts house: Rotary Hall -- where the Egg Farmers of Ontario Butter Tart Contest is judged during the festival -- gallery space, and the Quest Art School + Gallery's classes and exhibitions on its surfaces. Concerts, theatre, gallery shows and community events fill its calendar through the year; the bill of the week lives with the Centre and Quest Art, never copied here. Quest Art School + Gallery, housed at the Cultural Centre on its surfaces, is the town's art school: classes, workshops and exhibitions for the region, enrolling on its own calendar.

Wye Marsh in brief: 3,000-acre wetland centre at 16160 Highway 12 East (Tay Township) -- 25 km of trails, boardwalk, birds of prey, trumpeter swans; open 362 days; admission and tour prices on the Centre's own page. The marsh's learning is programmed: guided walks, canoe and kayak tours, workshops and seasonal programmes across its 362-day year, listed on the Centre's own pages and booked there.

The mission house

Sainte-Marie's interpretation and education programmes

Sainte-Marie among the Hurons, 16164 Highway 12 East, is Ontario's first European community, recreated on its original site by Huronia Historical Parks: the French Jesuit mission headquarters of 1639-1649, abandoned and burned in 1649, now rebuilt as a palisaded living-history village of some twenty-five reconstructed buildings -- barracks, a church, workshops, residences and Indigenous visitor shelters -- staffed by costumed interpreters, with an interpretive museum, a restaurant and a gift shop on its surfaces. Place records seat the site in Tay Township, east of the town line, with a Midland postal address; it is attributed to Huronia Historical Parks on every mention here, never to the Town. Its published season runs from early May to Thanksgiving, daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the listings reached, with admission varying by date in a published range and children five and under free; the season's grid and rates live on saintemarieamongthehurons.on.ca.

The museum's teaching

Little Lake Park in brief: the town's inland park -- Huronia Museum (549 Little Lake Park Road, est. 1947) and its reconstructed Wendat village with a full-size longhouse; hours and admission with the museum. The Huronia Museum's own account carries educational programmes for schools and adults -- the town's third classroom, in its park. Sessions and fees live with the museum.

The discipline note

No session grid -- no day, hour or fee -- is printed here beyond the prices a primary surface itself publishes (the Wye Marsh's admission and tour prices, on its own contact page), because programmes change by session and live with their owners. This guide names the houses and their documented forms; enrolment happens at each house, on its dates.
