Teen activities
The teen year in Midland: paddles, beaches, and one enormous festival day
The teen offer here is water and terrain: a marsh to paddle, a bay to boat, a provincial park's beaches across the bay -- and the town's programmes carrying the rest, by session, with the festival day as the year's peak.
The teen year, season by season
Wye Marsh in brief: 3,000-acre wetland centre at 16160 Highway 12 East (Tay Township) -- 25 km of trails, boardwalk, birds of prey, trumpeter swans; open 362 days; admission and tour prices on the Centre's own page. The Wye Marsh is the teen anchor the adults underestimate: guided canoe tours ($8) and kayak tours ($10) per person on the Centre's own page, 25 km of trails, a birds-of-prey area and winter ski and snowshoe rentals -- a full outdoor programme ten minutes from downtown, in every season.
In town, the teen ground is the waterfront and Little Lake Park in summer, the Cultural Centre and Quest Art's classes and youth programming on their calendars, and the town's recreation programmes by session. No programme grid is frozen here; all live with their owners.
The forms of the outing
The paddle programme
the Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre, 16160 Highway 12 East, is a 3,000-acre provincially significant wetland and forest in Tay Township, run by the Wildlife Centre at a Midland postal address: some 25 kilometres of trails, a floating boardwalk over the marsh, an observation tower, a birds-of-prey area and an interpretive hall, famous for its trumpeter swans and for guided canoe and kayak tours through the marsh channels in season. The Centre's own contact page gives the working facts this guide prints: open seven days a week, 362 days a year (closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day), visitor centre 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., adult admission $12 and seniors/youth $9 on that page, guided canoe tours $8 and kayak tours $10 per person, and winter rentals (skis $18, snowshoes $5-$10). Prices carry HST and live on wyemarsh.com -- confirm there before you set out.
The beach day, as a trip
Awenda in brief: Ontario Parks' 2,900-hectare park in Tiny Township -- 6 km of Georgian Bay shoreline, four beaches plus a pet beach, 30-plus km of trails, an ancient dune system and Kettle's Lake; day-use vehicle permits booked with Ontario Parks.
The festival day
Ontario's Best Butter Tart Festival is Midland's signature day: a free, one-day June festival that fills the downtown core and the waterfront parks (David Onley Park and Harbourside Park) with 230-plus vendors and food trucks. The Town's own festival pages give the scale: some 60,000 visitors, up to 300,000 butter tarts for sale in 2026, an entertainment stage all day, a Kids Zone in Harbourside Park, free shuttles and a free bike valet, and the Egg Farmers of Ontario Butter Tart Contest -- traditional and wild-style categories -- judged in Rotary Hall at the Cultural Centre. The festival has sat on Festivals and Events Ontario's Top 100 list since 2019, and the Town publishes the next edition as June 12, 2027, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on midland.ca.
The winter teen
Winter moves the offer without ending it: ski and snowshoe days at the Wye Marsh on its own rentals, the Cultural Centre's winter season, and the museum's galleries. The downhill version is the Blue Mountain day trip -- 43 km straight-line (computed), about 58 km by road and 55 minutes' estimated driving (computed) -- booked with the resort.
What this page does not promise
No arcade or indoor climbing is asserted for Midland in this guide, because none is documented on the surfaces reached. Those forms live in Barrie and Collingwood -- outings, named as destinations on this guide's day-trips pages, each at home.
