Mont-Laurier festivals: a street fair, a biennial theatre week and two market seasons
The festival year here has an unusual shape -- its biggest theatre event runs every two years and is away in 2026 -- so this page prints the real calendar: the July street fair, the October market, the December markets, and the summer-long animation the Ville funds instead of a single June night.
The year's peaks, and one famous absence
The year's anchor is the Fête au centre-ville: the Chambre de commerce de Mont-Laurier's downtown festival and sidewalk-sale day, Friday, July 17, 2026, 10 h to 18 h on rue de la Madone -- merchants' offers, exhibitors and artisans along the street, family animation through the day, listed by the Ville among the major summer events it supports. It is past at this build and printed as the verified 2026 canon.
The second anchor is biennial, and honesty about it matters: the Festival international de théâtre de Mont-Laurier runs one week in September every two years, seated at the Espace Theatre with a Place du Festival on rue du Pont. Its own site states the next edition will be held in 2027 -- so there is NO 2026 edition, and none is derived from past windows anywhere in this guide.
The peaks, carded
The July peak
Friday, July 17, 2026, 10 h-18 h: the chamber's street fair takes the downtown for a day -- the town's summer at full voice, on the organizer's own page.
The October market
The 2026 edition ran Saturday, October 3, 10 h-17 h: artisans, live music, family programming and the town's Halloween elements -- a costume contest and candy for costumed children.
The December markets
Two Christmas-market formats: the Ville's artisan market at the Espace Theatre (some 45 artisans, one early-December Saturday, free) and the Grand Marché de Noël au Coeur-Immaculé (570, rue Panet, CIM). Their 2026 dates were unpublished at build -- patterns printed, dates never invented.
The summer-long answer to a single night
The Ville's summer programming is the festival layer's working half: Concerts du parc at the parc Toussaint-Lachapelle gloriette, Ciné-pop outdoor screenings and the Mardis j'anime ma ville animation, published on the Ville's own calendar in season. Around them sit the partner events the Ville's 2026 programming names -- the Festival d'humour Joyeux Mont-Laurier, a Festival Stradivaria stop, the Tournoi d'improvisation La Coupe glacée de la Limol and the Sommet du mycotourisme québécois at the Maison de l'Entrepreneur (601, rue de la Madone, November 25-26, 2026, on the Ville's council record). Where no dated 2026 edition was captured from an organizer's own surface -- Joyeux, Stradivaria, the Coupe glacée -- this guide documents the form and prints no date: a pattern is never converted into a date.
The Fête nationale, stated plainly
Mont-Laurier's Ville deliberately does NOT organize a Fête nationale celebration. The mayor's published reasoning is on the record: the surrounding municipalities each hold their own Saint-Jean-Baptiste activities, and the Ville keeps its funds for summer-long cultural programming instead. The regional Fête nationale programming seats its headline shows in other municipalities -- Lac-des-Écorces and Notre-Dame-du-Laus among them, both firewalled neighbours -- and none of it is imported here. Any page implying a Ville Fête nationale event in Mont-Laurier would be inventing one.
Halloween and the year's edge
Halloween in Mont-Laurier is the Marché d'automne's costume contest and the libraries' Club de Lego Halloween theme (September) -- no Mont-Laurier-seated October 31 event was verified on an operator surface at build, and none is asserted. The regional calendar's haunted houses and skating Halloweens belong to Ferme-Neuve, Lac-du-Cerf and Chute-Saint-Philippe -- their towns' records, never this town's.
Common questions
What is Mont-Laurier's biggest festival?
The Fête au centre-ville (July) for the street, the Festival international de théâtre for scale -- but the theatre festival is biennial and its next edition is 2027, per its own site. In 2026 the working peaks are the Fête au centre-ville, the Marché d'automne and the Espace Theatre's season.
Is there a Fête nationale celebration in Mont-Laurier?
No Ville-organized one -- deliberately. The Ville's stated policy is to fund summer-long programming instead, while neighbouring municipalities hold their own Saint-Jean-Baptiste celebrations. This guide never implies a town Fête nationale event exists.
When are Mont-Laurier's Christmas markets?
Early December by pattern: the Marché de Noël chez les artisans at the Espace Theatre on one Saturday (10 h-17 h, free, some 45 artisans in documented editions) and the Grand Marché de Noël au Coeur-Immaculé. No 2026 dates were published at build, so none is printed -- check the Ville and the regional tourism surfaces in November.
