Free things to do
Free things to do in Reims
Reims is generous with free: a Gothic cathedral nave, a Roman arch, big parks and a summer light show - all without opening your wallet.
Completely free
Cathédrale Notre-Dame (nave)
The nave is free - the rose window, the Chagall windows, the 13th-century glass, the sheer verticality. (Tower tours are ticketed.)
Basilique Saint-Remi
Free entry to the abbey church holding Saint Remi's tomb - Romanesque and Gothic in one building, and quieter than the cathedral.
Porte de Mars
The 3rd-century Roman triumphal arch, open-air and free around the clock - best floodlit at night.
Parc de Champagne
Lawns, rose gardens, century-old trees - the big park the champagne houses built. Free, and made for picnics.
Coulée Verte
18 km of canal-towpath walkway through parks and the Les trous de Leu nature reserve.
Carnegie Library
The art-deco reading room is free to visit - one of Reims' most beautiful interiors, no ticket.
Free in season
The Rêve de Couleurs cathedral light show is free on summer evenings (dates vary yearly - confirm at the tourist office). The Halles du Boulingrin costs nothing to wander, and an art-deco walking tour - Carnegie Library, Cours Jean-Baptiste Langlet, Villa Douce exteriors - is free with a map from the tourist office.
