Farmers markets
Farmers markets in Kenmare
There is one market that matters in Kenmare, and it’s a good one. The Kenmare Farmers Market takes over The Square every Wednesday — and the town’s food culture, which is the best thing about the place, is on full display.
The Wednesday market
Every Wednesday, The Square fills with stalls: local produce, artisan meats and cheeses, baked goods, handmade crafts, artwork, jewellery, antiques, street treats and secondhand books. In July and August it runs daily. Entry is free — you only pay for what you buy — and the prepared-food stalls make it a legitimate lunch plan.
Practical notes: confirm the day locally before travelling in the off season (days can shift), bring cash as a backup even though many stalls take cards, and ask before photographing the stalls. It’s popular with cyclists coming off the Beara lanes, so mornings have the best pick.
Beyond Wednesday
Kenmare doesn’t have a second market, but the market-adjacent shopping is year-round: Quinlan’s Fish for the bay’s catch, the smoked-salmon producers, Lorge Chocolatier, and the craft shops on The Square. In December, the annual Christmas market at the Michael J. Quill Centre in nearby Kilgarvan picks up the baton with local artists and crafters.
