Events in Kenmare
Kenmare’s event calendar is built around the town’s two great engines: the annual festival weeks that take over The Square, and the quieter year-round rhythm of the farmers market, the lace workshops and the pub sessions. The town’s live event feed is still being assembled by the Dayfari town crew — below are the verified annual fixtures; dated listings land here as they are verified.
The live feed
The live event feed is still being built. Our town crew is working through Kenmare’s venues, pubs, the town-square calendar and Kerry’s regional festival sources tier by tier. Dated events will appear here as each tier goes live — the annual fixtures below are verified and recur every year.
Our tier workers are still researching Kenmare’s event sources: the town-square calendar, the pubs’ session schedules, regional festival listings, cycling events and community boards. Until the merged feed goes live, this page lists only what is verified to recur every year. No placeholder events, no guesses.
Annual fixtures (verified)
These happen every year. Exact programmes and hours are confirmed closer to each date:
Halloween Howl
Kenmare’s own week-long Halloween festival, running from the Saturday before Halloween to the 31st: a festival launch, a haunted forest, a haunted house and cemetery, a ghoulish gathering of witches, wizards and ghouls, and a Halloween parade on the 31st itself. It falls in the mid-term break, so the whole town turns out.
Samhain Chiarraí
The county-wide Halloween festival, part of Fáilte Ireland’s Home of Halloween programme: street spectacles, Samhain processions, music, food, storytelling and folklore events across Kerry from mid-October into November, rooted in the Celtic New Year traditions of the county.
Kenmare Farmers Market
The town’s own verified weekly fixture: local produce, artisan meats and cheeses, baked goods, handmade crafts, artwork and street treats on The Square every Wednesday, going daily through July and August. Free entry — you only pay for what you buy.
Kenmare Lace Festival
The biennial celebration of the town’s lacemaking heritage: workshops in Kenmare needlepoint, Irish crochet, bobbin lace and more, exhibitions, lectures and fashion events. In off years, the Lace & Design Centre on The Square keeps the tradition alive with demonstrations and winter workshops.
Kilgarvan Christmas Market
The area’s verified annual Christmas market, held at the Michael J. Quill Centre in nearby Kilgarvan: local artists and crafters, Christmas gift ideas, and the buy-local spirit that defines the west-Kerry craft scene. The date is confirmed year to year — check locally before travelling.
Planning around a fixture
If you can time a trip to one fixture, make it the Halloween Howl in late October: it is the one week of the year when Kenmare performs itself at full volume — haunted forest, parade, the square gone spooky. Book accommodation early; the mid-term break fills the town. The Samhain Chiarraí programme running alongside it gives the Kerry-wide backdrop. For a quieter rhythm, aim for any Wednesday: market day on The Square is the town at its most itself.
