Free things to do
Free things to do in Kenmare
Kenmare is generous with free things. The town’s best assets — the bay, the walks, the Square, the views — don’t charge admission. Here’s the free Kenmare, researched October 2026.
Walk it
Reenagross Woodland Park, three kilometres out on the Iveragh road, is the free star: woodland trails, the Meadow Walk, the Fairy Garden Walk, rhododendron tunnels in May, and free parking. The Kenmare Bay Walk runs along the water from town. The Old Kenmare Road trail and the town’s own Gortamullen and Old Kenmare circuits cost nothing but shoe leather.
Look at it
The Square is free theatre: the painted shopfronts, the market on Wednesdays, the buskers and the comings and goings. The harbour is free too — seals, boats, the Caha mountains across the water. Window-shopping the galleries and craft shops costs nothing, though it rarely stays that way.
The stone circle
The Kenmare Stone Circle, the Bronze Age monument just outside town, is the ancient freebie — check current access locally, then stand in the middle of 4,000 years and listen to the quiet.
Free culture
The Kenmare Butter Market art space on The Square is worth checking for free exhibitions. And the cheapest entertainment in town is also the best: a traditional music session in the corner of a pub, free with the price of a pint.
