Farms and fields in the Clearwater Valley

Markets in Clearwater

One market, done properly: Saturday mornings on the grass at Dutch Lake, May to Thanksgiving.

The Clearwater Farmer's Market

Every Saturday morning from the first weekend in May until Thanksgiving, the grassy field at the Dutch Lake Community Centre (209 Dutch Lake Rd) becomes the valley's pantry and craft fair in one. The Clearwater Farmer's Market belongs to the BC Association of Farmers' Markets, and it runs 9am to noon sharp -- this is a morning town, and the good baking sells out.

What is on the tables

From the valley's farms

Saturdays 9am-12pm · May to Thanksgiving

Locally grown produce, grass-fed beef and pastured chickens from North Thompson farms, plus fresh baking, gourmet chocolates and mushrooms, local coffee and honey.

From the valley's makers

Same hours · artisans' row

A wide spread of handcrafted work by local artisans -- the same makers whose pieces stock the Olde Town Giftshop, here in person. This is the souvenir stop that actually supports the town.

The market as a morning out

Playground + stage on site

There is a playground for children and a stage for special events and musicians, mobility parking, and Dutch Lake itself a short walk away. The correct itinerary: market at 9, lake by 11, waterfalls after lunch.

Off-season and rainy Saturdays

Locals also run a winter farmers' market in the off-season -- winter produce, baked goods, Belgian chocolate and artisans under a roof. Dates and venue shift year to year; the Wells Gray Information Centre (416 Eden Rd, 250-674-3334) has the current word. If your trip misses market day entirely, the Olde Town Giftshop carries local makers year-round.
